24 days to go until waterfowl opens. Have my fingers crossed I'll have my Super Fox back for this season, especially October when those big old greenheads start to colour up and the snow geese abound!
For now it's out the door each evening looking at fields to see who has what for crops and shoot the breeze with some of the farmers starting their barley silage and haying.
Was flying my drone the other day checking fields to see how much sheetwater is lying in the crops after 24" of rain this summer to date and the local Hutterite Colony field boss happened by. When he saw I was flying my drone he asked if I'd come over and film them silaging barley so off I went.

Thanks so much for posting the videos. As a farmer myself i really enjoyed the short of the barley ensilaging. Sure does look wet from all that rain you've had.

This a farm we hunt about 2 miles from my door. This is the farmers home quarter. I sometimes see a couple small puddles in the low spots in spring when the snow melts but they are usually dried up by the time he seeds. This was taking a look last evening with my drone. My god! I have no idea how or why he even seeded that as it has not changed much since spring thaw except for getting more flooded.

Oh that is nothing! Another drive last evening for a little pre-season scouting...birds are stretched out by the thousands as far as the eye can see on a 12 mile long slough here they call a lake. And nobody that I know of except my hunting partner hunts the lake. People just do not water hunt here. If you see or hear anyone hunting water(very rarely) it's 99% outfitters guiding American clients on an afternoon duck hunt after shooting geese in the fields. Given the amount of water in the fields this fall I suspect most of the guided hunters will be getting their ducks in the fields along with their geese.
OMG. Even in the heydays down here on the Chesapeake Bay I never witnessed that many birds. The only place I can compare it to is South Dakota a few years back when every field was flooded like in your first picture. Thousands of ducks. Your drone shots are not only cool but what a great way to scout.
