I turned it over to a talented machinist, (not gunsmith) to make a working gun out of it. He almost succeeded, but gave up mid project and gave it back to me.
It's a shame that that project never came to fruition. Harry was one of a kind wasn't he?

Actually, my friend got the gun in firing position and fired it. I think his roadblock was feeding or ejecting. I would like to see someone continue this experiment. I still have the barrel.

I remember seeing a pair of Remington Model 31s converted to 28-gauge and .410-bore at one of the big Nevada gun shows. If memory serves me, they were done by Purbaugh.

I have owned 28 and .410 Remington 870s and 1100s, but have not seen a Model 31. Dave may be right. My 28 gauge barrel may be part of a Purbaugh gun.

Simmons made 28-gauge and .410-bore Model 870s and Model 1100s before Remington did. This from the 1966 Simmons catalog --

I have a Simmons .410 conversion 1100. I has worked in the past, but is not working at this time. It is, or was, a serious competition gun on a 12 gauge frame, weighing almost 8 pounds.

I recently picked up this 1917 Flues 4E SBT and if it hadn't been for the price I'd have passed on it...look at the stock and recoil pad someone replaced the originals with...sad because the rest of the gun is fantastic for its age!
