Opinion On This DE

Hi all, what's your opinion of this DE? It's a 12ga, circa 1923, 28"bbls, M/F, 7lbs even. The guns been restocked of course

Any comments would be appreciated

Hard to tell from the pics but looks like a very nice gun. However the wood looks out of place for a Fox DE. It would be more in keeping with a modern Italian O&U, IMHO.

That lools like DE 29323, which has been discussed in some detail on the member's only forum.

I agree with George, no one at Fox would have put that wood on a D grade.

I agree with George and abner and made a similar comment about the stock on the other forum. Despite original stocks darkening over time, I've yet to find an example of a factory stocked DE with that kind of layout. It is however, a fantastically executed restock in terms of fit and finish and the rest of the gun looks perfect.

In the 1950's I would go to Weatherby's when they were in South Gate, California, I would see his custom rifles--high end--and they would be stocked like that. Now I see that grain on a stock and my mind goes back to Weatherby's. I do have a Fox with wild factory wood, but it is a XE with maybe French Walnut? The grain and the color are like no other Fox I own. Bobby, someone from the South told me you have been known to be in bed with a Foxie lady with a wild streak.

I solved that problem, I moved across the hall from the bathroom. Happy birthday, I hope we make it 80, I want to collect that Social Security as long as I can. Would you put me in your will for the 32" B you bought from Phil?
