Re: Slip on pads

I'm a strong advocate for Kick-Killer leather slip-on pads. They don't stay on, however. I found years ago that leaving them on a gun that is exposed to sunlight will cause a difference in color of the wood exposed to the light, as compared to that under the leather. I use them for gaining length of...

Re: Nimrod shoot

Dave, I did not know that you knew Robert Harris. He is a fellow i have long wanted to meet, but know that I may never get to. He and I have talked many, many times over the years since he offered me his beautiful DHE Parker 16/20 gun. He has been an invaluable source of information for me concernin...

Re: Ejector Guide Pin Repair

Good luck, Mike. If I could offer a reference to a 'smith I knew could do the job right I wouldn't hesitate to do so. But, unfortunately, i can't.

Re: Ejector Guide Pin Repair

I have also done a broken ejector guide pin repair with silver solder, as Frank said, and it worked perfectly. Has held for some 10 years or so, now. the process is described in the Technician and Restoration Forum here, entitled Broken Ejector Guide Pin Repair, on Nov. 02, 2015. Here is a "pas...

Re: Press-in Bead Install?

I was shooting my Iver Johnson Special Trap Saturday afternoon with a bunch of younger guys. It dominated the field of Benellis, Stoegers and Franchis, all semis. I noticed that the front bead (it has both original ivory beads) seemed very large. It didn't bother me in shooting, but Frank's gotten m...

Re: Emil Flues Cape Gun

That is the man that first brought to the Internet the existence of Bo Whoop. He saw it at Jim Kelly's gun shop in Darlington, SC when it was there for restocking, about two years before the owner decided to send it to Julia's for auction. Poor man was nearly crucified for claiming he had seen it. I...

Re: Repairing a forend lug

Here's a photo of the screwed-up forend lug, with the broken piece lying on top in position. You can clearly see where it broke off. It broke because someone in the past filed away the top of the lug, weakening it drastically. https://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/75810_800x600.jpg Here are the two types of si...

Re: Repairing a forend lug

In the interest of clarity, and for the sake of others who are interested, I will post a couple close up pics of the broken lug later today. I will also check on the type silver solder I have on hand. It's been some time since I used it, to repair a broken ejector guide pin, but I'm pretty sure it i...

Repairing a forend lug

I own a 16 ga. AE Philly gun on which the forend lug had been filed down, for some unknown reason, before it came my way. In use, the top part of the "hook" shape broke off. There is just too little left to try to salvage it. It will have to be replaced by one means or another. Since the r...
