That is a real beauty. I thought my 12-gauge is pretty nice but this 10-gauge, wow!

Does it have a flat or concave rib? While the Colt letter on my gun is basically worthless, stating the finish is "blue" and the stocks are "wood" it makes special mention of the flat rib.

I had thought about getting a letter Dave but the few 1883 letters I have come across have been lackluster at best like you say. I'd say concave rib.
This gun belongs in a Colt collection or a big shotgun collection, neither of which I am interested in starting.

WOW!! Incredible condition!!

That's a real treasure, Tom! I drive by the idled factory at least 5x a week and think of all the cased, presentation sets that left on rail cars (tracks ran a few feet behind the building) bound for the thousands of VIP's who were awarded them. The building was renovated and now is home to office space and luxury apartments. All that remains is the iconic Colt Dome, nicknamed the "blue onion" and the gold, Colt weathervane which I believe is a replacement as the original is housed in the Colt Museum. Thirty-two miles south was the Winchester factory! Between the two of them, the West was Won!!!

Yessir, I've driven by that dome a number of times, so glad it still survives Steve.
