Re: Older 1910 A upgrade
I got around to measuring the chokes in my old beater yesterday . My gauge says nominal bore diameters of .727” . With 25/1000’s in the right barrel and 31/1000’s in the left . The old gun supposedly will be tightened and lever recentered in the next two weeks . As I told my friend I wanted to take it to Prospect Hall for the tower shoot in late October . He however told me rust blueing would more than likely be in November or December which I can’t argue with as I’m charged the family rate So after the tower shoot I think I’ll give the wood to Danny to refinish . Old gun is certainly nothing to get carried away about , but the more I play with it the more it kinda grows on you .

It must have been a beauty back when the work was done on it.
By the way, what's the rest of the serial number if you don't mind sharing? 10??? looks like.
Thanks for showing us.

Re: Older 1910 A upgrade
Incidentally did Fox stamp the serial number in the stock and forend wood ? And if so in what location ? I looked under the trigger guard and saw no number but I didn’t take the iron off the forend wood .

I wonder if conceivably this clunker could have gone back to Philadelphia for the embellishment ?

The serial number was stamped in the head of the stock --

Re: Older 1910 A upgrade
Well the head of the stock has no number stamped in it , so as I’d assumed it wasn’t restocked at the factory .

Re: Older 1910 A upgrade
After removing the stock I decided to put the action and floor plate in our sonic cleaner . It amazed me how well the engraving seemed to reappear . I guess it was more crud in it than I thought . I only ran two 15 minute cycles .

Hopefully this thing will be tightened up Wednesday/Thursday and I’ll shoot it at the club next Tuesday and possibly Prospect Hall on the 22nd

Dogs on the side panels are distinctly like those on the bottom of earlier C Grade frames and I wonder if this was engraved by one of the period factory engravers but on a moonlight commission. But despite the cleaning the engravings lack crispness and I wonder if the frame hadn't been LIGHTLY cleaned in the distant past? Craig, it is a neat Fox with a story though not fully known and if otherwise functional I wouldn't do any restoration at all. JMO
It might be a pic illusion but the sear pin hole looks a tiny bit oversize? If you have a mike or vernier handy maybe you can let us know the diameter of the sear pin ..... frank

This gun from the time the folks in LOuisianna acquired it and until I bought it I think this gun had a kinda rough life . I’d be curious to know how many times it may have fallen out of a flat bottom boat and into the bayou . Evidently at some point it wouldn’t open and I think someone used a hammer on the top lever . That’s been returned pretty much to the correct position and hopefully it’s being tightened today . As to restoration I’m not big into that word , I do however wanna have the barrels reblued . I’ve been scrubbing on the wood some to try and bring a little figure out .Silvers wrote: ↑Wed Oct 12, 2022 7:51 am Dogs on the side panels are distinctly like those on the bottom of earlier C Grade frames and I wonder if this was engraved by one of the period factory engravers but on a moonlight commission. Frank I suspect you’re correct that atleast one side is obturated a bit .
