a painting of my bird dog

I am planning on surprising my wife this christmas with a painting of our brittany cash that I have commissioned by a good friend Rod Lawrence who is a well known wildlife artist. My wife walks our dog almost every day, when hunting season arrives, she gets a bit of a break. I had posted earlier how heavy cash was when we got him, if it wasn't for my wife and my 2 friends helping us so much I don't think cash would be as good of a hunting dog that he is now. The first picture if I can get it loaded is a rough pencil sketch.

The second is a color sketch, I wanted Rod to paint the collar with Cash's name that is sewn right into the collar. One of the guys that helped me so much sews names and phone numbers in all his collars now, they won't fall off like some metal hang tags do. I had his wife do the same for my brittany.

Thanks Jim and foxnut,
Rod was showing me some ideas for the type of painting I might like, when I saw this one, I got tears in my eyes:) I think the head and a little body will be more personal for my wife. I will try to post the painting I was talking about on here now.

My painting is finished, I cannot believe how good it turned out. I think its Rod's best dog portrait yet. I am getting 6 extra prints, and Rod likes it so much, he may do a limited edition of 95 prints. I am planning on taking all those who helped us with our dog out to dinner before christmas and surprise them all with a framed print and my wife with the original. I will try to down load the sequence that rod sent me it may take me a while to figure this all out.

That is super-realistic. I think you've got a winner for Christmas, Ed.

Thanks guys, it looks even better in person. He painted cash's ears just perfect, my wife lets his hair grow out longer in the winter, and its almost like he has 2 sets of ears. I like the eyes and nose the best I think, even his teeth are just right. When Rod told me he is thinking of doing a limited edition of prints, that told me how good he likes the painting. I could hardly sleep after viewing that painting on wednesday, I am so excited for my wife and friends who all helped us so much. Its going to be a special christmas for sure.

Fantastic, Ed! Cash should get a cut of any profits from limited edition prints.

Mike,
My wife can't usually wait until xmas morning, its funny, like 3 or 4 days before, she starts wanting to open presents. I am trying to arrange a dinner outing with all the people that helped with cash, then give them all their prints and my wife her picture after the dinner is over. Jim, I had just wanted to get a few extra prints for my friends, the printing stuff is so advanced now, Rod said it would be easy to just do a limited edition, he doesn't have to order all 95 prints at once. I was relieved, because I thought he would have to buy 95 prints in advance. We went to the pheasant farm today, it was a pretty good disaster :D I will go again probably sunday if I can find another guy to go with me. I need to keep him on point, the birds were running everywhere, he "bumped" 3 birds which he has never done. Oh well, I learned something today. Jeff S. that pheasant farm invite is always open too:)
