"The gun was lettered for it current owner in 2006!!!"

Craig,

I'd be curious to know just how he knows it's currently owned (not by whom).
I mean, he just lettered it for you and you're not the owner. How would he know the 2006 requester is the owner?

Mike you are correct, but it gives us hope! Man I would love to see that gun HE with XE engraving, 32" F&F Wow just to swat a few Mallards with that old boy.

If WH doubted it was Bo Whoop, I wonder what his reasoning was? If it didn't sound or look like Bo Whoop, it sure sounded and looked like a Bartholomew gun. However, I'm sure Henry Bartholomew would have placed the order himself if it were his gun. I'm sure Mr. Tom Kidd has information or at least an opinion. We would certainly like to hear from him. Interestingly, the hand writing on the factory order card appears that it was wrtten by Nash Buckingham's own hand ---except he spelled his last name wrong.

No mention in the work card notes to delete safety...Bill- if you are interested in Headrick or Kidd's opinions, why don't you just call them?

I've had copies of that card for years. The fact that Burt Becker isn't mentioned on it and that there is no notation for no-safety, leads me to think this is a gun Nash ordered for one of his cronies/customers. I've never seen the gun, so I could be totally wrong.

In the literature I find on page 157 of GBE's book on Nash that Nash got BoWhoop in 1926. In Nash's October 16, 1959, letter to Edgar Caldwell he says 1927?!?

The gun recorded as BoWhoop on the photo used in ther frontpiece of "Blood Lines" appears to have a pretty thick grip to its straight grip stock.

Dave- no "engrave name" on barrel instructions, either...I guess that Nash had that done at the kiosk in the mall when he put the ivory in the fore end tip...

In "Are We Shooting 8 gauge Guns", published in 1960 and written around 1959, NB writes of his trip with Paul Curtis and Hal Sheldon to Campfire Club after having shot at the Phila. Gun Club in 1928 with "a new 10 pound, 32 inch, overbored 12-gauge magnum (with Askins-Sweely type boring by the late Burt Becker)... So we can assume that Bo Whoop I was built sometime during or before 1928 perhaps he was in Philadelphia to pick it up? I guess it depends on when NB thought the new wore off Bo Whoop. This article also mentions his name being engraved on "both case and steel".

Bill: I guess that you've noted that the new letter that Craig received is practically identical to the copy of the 2006 one that I sent you.

See you at the Vintagers!

Best Regards, George

I also notice the lack of a Kautzky on the work order for this gun.

Dave- do you recall NB's letter to Bob V. of 1968 when Nash mentions "In 1927, Burt made me 3 double guns, two 12 bores and a 20ga. Magnum and a set of quail barrels..." He then goes on to describe the 12 bores as a 7 lb 26 inch quail gun and a 9 3/4 pound 32 magnum which he then describes as beining pictured in "De Shootinest Getn'man" and losing in 1948 (ie. THE Bo Whoop I). He makes no mention of a second magnum 12. But, he does mention having 2 Whitworth Beckers (in addition to 2 owned by Henry Bartholomew) one of which NB says he gave to Hal Sheldon and the other he sold to Sen. Hawes. -Don

I hate to gum up the works here, but last season I gunned at a club on the Lower Potomac and found Senator Hawes' name in the sign in book. Of course, Harry Truman and a couple of other fairly prominent names were in the book also. However, the idea that Senator Hawes and his great smallbore Foxes had gunned that island meant more to me than the Truman connection. I didn't spend enough time in the book to find Henry Bartholomew and Nash Buckingham, but they may be in there. Of course, the club is only a good groundhog shot from Henry's farm, so maybe Henry and Buck didn't need to sign in.
