I have a SW pingun serial #53561 . the stock developed a crack on the flat right behind the reciever . I removed the stock using the dissasembly page from the forum
which was spot on for stock removal. There is a ribbon staple going across the inside the reciever inlet looks like this,^^^^^^^^^^ and that long. looks to me like the
staple caused the crack. Are these staples factory or did sombody put it in there? any help appreciated. thanks greg

Those staples are factory.

ok thanks looks like the reciever mashed the center of the staple flattening the center section and possibly cracking the stock.

It looks like you intended to post some pictures but I can't see them. Look at the second page of the following post for a discussion on this very staple (along with other things). There is also a decent picture of what the inside of the stock should look like undamaged. Be careful taking the stock off. Once off, the stock is vulnerable to damage. Firing any gun with loose stock screws, no matter how they are arranged, can cause damage to the butt stock. So figuring out what caused your damage might be difficult.

looking closer the crack actually is a chip of thin wood from middle to top right behind the reciever. it hasnt advanced enough to fall out but a few more shots ?? So how should i try to stop it from getting worse? I should add that this is my every day hunter,stock was already cut with a recoil pad installed lots of hunting marks.
