Reproof fails

I understand that at some point Fox routinely lengthen and reproofed short chambered guns sent in for service. Is there any record on how many if any failed the reproof?
As I recall, guns that were sent in for work during the later Savage years were routinely extended with longer chambers and stamped as such on the barrels (ugly stamping at that). If the gun was determined not to have the required wall thickness for extension, the owner was given the option of purchased new barrels from Savage at dealer cost for fitting to their guns. I believe if the owner didn't want to pay for new barrels, the gun in its original condition was returned back to them (that's the part I'm a fuzzy on). Now, whether they failed proof or failed pre-proof measurements is another question indeed.
PS. I'm doing this from memory. I'm guessing Frank, or some of the others members with much deeper knowledge of the process will correct me if I'm incorrect. I'm pretty used to being corrected.
