AE Grade #13804

Greetings All -

I am new to this board, but have been a Fox fan and owner of multiple guns for years.

Several years ago when I was starting a few new businesses I had to sell a CE grade to pay the mortgage. I told myself that when things turned it would be payback time. They did, and it is.

I am working on a custom Fox project with the guys at Turnbull - who, by the way, just rock - and we started with an AE grade #13804.

I have the check in the mail for the factory letter, but was wondering if anyone has any visibility on this gun, besides what is in McIntosh's book.

Thanks so much.

My first thought is that a gun of that vintage would have the early style ejectors (if it started life with ejectors) with the troublesome ejector sears, making it a rather poor choice for a custom project. Much better to start with a gun with the 1911-style ejectors.

Check out Don Kaas's post on the PGCA site of his latest Fox project -- http://www.parkergun.org/forums/forum1/5676.html

Dave made a good point on watching out for the first style ejector system on early Fox project guns. Interesting though, I've looked at a lot of pre-13,000 serial number ejector Foxes and all but one had the second version, Russell patent ejectors. I assume most of them were retrofitted by the factory. Frank

Guys - thanks for the responses - it definitely has new style ejectors.

It'll be a do everything game gun. I have a few lightweight English guns for all day upland - this will be a waterfowl in the AM and pheasant in the PM kind-a-gun.

30" Krupp Steel, bored skeetish and tight mod., semi pistol grip with a thin pad. Mt LOP is 15", and 30" barrels just feel right and look more elegent with a stock that long.

While it will be a wicked pretty, fully engraved gun, it will be a field gun. I subscribe to the "A ship in a harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are made for" school of thought and action.

Pics of the completed stock (my work) are at www.uplandjournal.com. Search the guns area for "gun porn."

Lovely wood. Who was your supplier? I am looking forward to seeing the finished gun.

Birdawg, you're a better man than I am. I can't find the "guns area", the search function or the gun porn section. Help.

Bill, I would admit to possibly being better at finding internet trivia but that is about all.
