Shipped from Philly on November 4, 1918 to White Hardware. I have a hunch this may be the one time large store in Wlikes Barre, PA.
The Great War was winding down but a new front had opened up in the States in the form of a deadly flu strain killing hundreds every day. Eastern PA was hit particularly hard. Its hard to imagine the terror our grandparents went through trying to avoid this plague. I sometimes wonder if the original owner heeded the advice in the A.H. Fox ads and spent a lot of time in the woods away from the unsanitary conditions in the large cities. The old girl turns 100 on Sunday, ready to provide A Healthful Hobby for another century

*I must acknowledge the photo titled "Calhoun,WV Volunteers 1918" My Grandfather is in the front row, second from right. He came home unscathed. His 50+ great grand children are on every continent of the globe
