That's just wonderful Craig but I kind of feel sorry for ole' Lucy. Nellie sure is a looker.

Those are great pictures, and a sincere "thank you" for posting them. Is that the lodge at your club? I had hoped to get one last duck hunt in this weekend, but our lake was covered with ice. :(

Very nice pictures, Craig. I was wondering why you have Nellie tied up while in the blind.

A rest well deserved.

She's quite a dog with an outstanding future.

And that makes both of you very happy.

Daryl I still use Lucy for upland hunting so she still gets field work.
Jim I always put a lead on young dogs until I am positive they are steady. Breaking is dangerous. It's difficult to control a youngster and shoot at ducks. Nellie has been very steady but the lead is my insurance policy.
Jeff that is our duck club clubhouse.

That is a good policy, Craig. Soon you will not have to worry about her not being steady. Is she good at marking downed birds?
My dog, Mazie, is terrible at marking, while my previous dog, Mandy, was excellent.

Well ole' Lucy does shine in the uplands. I'll always remember that blind she made in SD. Classic!
Speaking of retrieves, we had hundreds of migratory doves invade our club this past weekend so I could'nt resist the opportunity to chase them. The last bird I killed was a high incomer that carried, once hit, into the most god awful tangle on the property. Fox really did'nt see it fall but she had a general direction to work with. What a great feeling when all I could see was the brush moving and she emerges with the bird in her mouth. Gotta love those labs. BTW- all shooting was done with the 30" 20ga SW.

I think many of us are not surprised at that Daryl.

Nellie is spending her second winter in South Carolina, I was just down for a week and plan to return at the end of February for another week. She is starting triples and handling very well, I hope she can run in Master Hunter Tests this summer. Very talented little girl if a don't say. Facebook video:

That’s a great video and quite an impressive dog. You had better shoot a lot of ducks next year to keep her happy.

She looked strong again today. I'm headed down to South Carolina the end of February for a week to train with Nellie and Tony Carlo. My son is also coming to run his dog Roxie. I'm a lucky man!!
My hope is to run Nellie in AKC Master this summer.

As I am sure most of you know and have figured out my first love even before my love of vintage guns is hunting dogs. I'm a dog man pure and simple. I'm 70 years old and Nellie may well be my last dog and my hope is I can help her reach her full capabilities. I have been fortunate to shared my blind and my upland fields with great Black Labs.
