Patent Date Stamps - A Ponderable

The earliest Ansley H. Fox doubles have one patent date on the watertable --
That is the date for Patent No. 796,119 which Ansley filed the day after he resigned from Philadelphia Arms Co., but covers the bolting of the PAC Fox gun. This stamp is found on guns with one, two and three digit serial numbers. I don't have a picture of the patent stamp on a watertable between 106 and 1113.
The next stamp A.H. Fox Gun Co. used adds October 17, 1905, Patent No. 801,862, which covers the lock mechanism of the Ansley H. Fox gun; and January 16, 1906, Patent No. 810,046, which covers the bolting of the Ansley H. Fox gun.
This roll-stamp remained in use from 1113 to 14692.
The next stamp they used added two more dates of patents that were assigned to Philadelphia Arms Co. December 2, 1902, Patent No. 714,688, covers bolting that PAC didn't use but is much like that used on Tobin guns? And, August 16, 1904, Patent No. 767,557, which covers the lock mechanism of the PAC Fox gun.
I have recorded this five patent date stamp on guns from the 15xxx range into the 22xxx range.
The final patent date stamp had seven dates. It eliminated the Dec.2.1902 date and added May 11, 1909, a date which refers to Patent No. 921,220, the out of use A.H. Fox & G.A. Horne ejectors; May 2, 1911, Patent No. 991,375, the F.T. Russell ejectors; and June 11, 1912, Patent No. 1,029,229 & 1,029,374, the F.T. Russell and the J.C. Kremer & A.H. Fox snap-on/-off forearm fastenings.
They seem to have had trouble getting this roll-stamp correctly positioned on the watertable and it is worse on smallbore watertables!!
So, why these dates for patents that didn't even apply to the gun?
