Long forend

I have an HE Fox in 12ga with 32" barrels. It has a very long, extended forend. I will post pictures later today. This forend has an area to grip that is about where a slide on leather grip would be. Is it original? Has anyone seen a forend like it? Shotgunner

The only one that I know of in the records is 33051 the H.H. Bartholomeu gun.

The 33051 gun was a Becker gun that was featured in the 1996 summer DGJ. The article was written by Tom Kidd.

It's not an HE, but I've pulled the order card for a 32" AE 20 gauge gun that I came across, and it called for the forearm to be "full + 10 1/4 inches long". The longer forearm looks good on those 32" guns, and especially on the smaller framed 20ga with those long tubes. Knowing right away that it wasn't the standard forearm you see, it was cool to find it on the card as a special order feature.

Forearm lengths seem to vary a bit. A quick look at the lengths of smallbore wood in my gunroom.

1913 A-Grade 20-gauge 28-inch -- 7 11/16 inch

1920 AE-Grade 20-gauge 30-inch -- 8 7/16 inch

1922 Sterlingworth Field 20-gauge -- 7 11/16 inch

1928 A-Grade 20-gauge 28-inch -- 8 3/16 inch

1928 Sterlingworth Ejector Field 16-gauge -- 7 7/8 inch

1936 A-Grade 16-gauge 32-inch -- 8 3/8 inch

Lengths given are of the wood. All trim splinter forearms. Bulky later Savage-era forearms are another topic.

Boy 10 1/2" forend on 32" 20ga I would love to see that!! Longer than a XE 12ga by a inch. Very cool. My 20ga CE is 8 1/2"

Doesn't Marshfellow have a 32" 20 ga. Fox? Or, used to?

SRH

P.S. My memory may be slipping, but I do recall a photo he had of one, but not sure if it belonged to him or not.

P.S. Ah ha! It was a 32" BE 20 with 3" chambers, shipped 4/22/'16. Tom posted about it many years ago. It was a beauty. It haunts me still.

Daryl, we ran across that gun while we were at Morrison Pines in Moultrie two years ago. We stopped by Kevin's Guns over lunch to look around and there it was. I found the notes on it when I got home tonight. The gun was serial number 203003 and also had a Miller single trigger in rear position. The price tag on it (being at Kevin's) was $19,995 . It made Dana's 32" 20 look like a real bargain, as I think it went for around 9k if memory serves. Aside from Mike's 32" CE 20ga, it's the only other one I've ever seen. As you know, it's the dream gun for me, I don't care what grade!

Looking it up again, it would make an interesting card of the month.

Here's the forend 9-3/8" long (wood length) made to match the one that was on my "Matilda" an early CE12 with s/n 106xx and pre-ebony insert. Original was in bad shape. She's my primary sporting clays gun and I like that longer length for my leading hand. frank

I have no way of verifying if that that forearm in those pictures I snaked off GI is original, but I either saw the same gun or one like it at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds Gun Show several decades ago before I started writing down serial numbers. Always thought this Ithaca forearm is quite a "hunk o' tree" --

Speaking of huge forends. Here is one I found recently on a SUGG. Was thinking it has to be custom with a checkering pattern like that.
