I have a Brownell's drop and lop wooden gauge but it is slightly warped and a table works well for me. Bobby

I have always used the gun upside down on a flat surface and a rule. With some straight lines struck on the surface, even cast can be calculated.

I did, this past year, buy one of those shotgun combo gauges that attach to the rib with a magnet. It seems as good of a tool as any for the price, i have yet to use it yet. Old habbits die hard i guess.

I use a large framing square with the long edge on top the barrel rib. I usually get the factory spec drop that way. Interesting thing is if I use the upside down on a table method, the drop is about 1/8 less. I don't know why. Maybe the front bead tilts the gun a little bit.

I always let the bead hang off the table.

Bead has to be off edge, or on my measuring board i have a hole drilled in it for the bead.

I have one of the shotgun combo-gauges too. I like using it because if I'm taking one stock measurement I usually am taking others so I can do them all with the same tool.

Thanks for all the replies. I made my own this weekend an its a pretty simple setup but gets the same measurements as upside down on a table. 1/2 square tube with magnets superglued
