Am I the only one with complaints about Savage letters?

I just got the letter on my A grade 20. The designation for the barrels reads: "Barrels -" M/F, choked". The sentence regarding the original price reads: "The basic price in was $50.00." Is it too much to ask, for $45.00, to have the barrel length shown, and to have the year that they sold for $50.00 shown? Coupled with the fact that the letter is printed on the cheapest possible paper with ink smears, etc., these letters sure are a drastic step down from those provided by Mr. Clark and Mr. Callahan!

That is our world today, cheaper products/services or higher prices, many times, both!

Well... I'm still waiting for mine. I'll let you know when it arrives.

True, but we shouldn't just accept it. I will be contacting them to request the rest of my letter! We'll see if it gets any results.

Well... I just got home from work and there was a "Savage Letter" in the mailbox. I guess it adds some authenticity to my gun, but it did not contain as much information as the production "card" that is available to AHFCA members. In the future, if I need manufacturing dates for a "Sterlingworth" I might request a letter (since cards are not available for those). However, for a graded gun a "card" from the BOD is a better deal.

thats a shame. was hoping on graded guns there would be a lot more info.

My Cards of the Month are probably more then a little misleading. I'm usually picking interesting cards. There are a whole lot of A- to CE-Grades made for stock cards that don't have much on them --

I recently purchased a CE 12 while at Tulsa. Got the card from the website and ordered the letter as well. Per above the letter was incorrect and had several items missing that are on the card. When I get a chance I will send a letter asking for an updated/corrected letter. To say the least, disappointed.

I have the cards on my graded guns; my main reason for getting the letters is that my cards don't have a date on them. A card I received on a gun I'm considering does faintly show a date, however.

If a Sterlingworth is early there might be something of interest in the letter; those on my Utica guns are basically form letters with standard catalog specs shown. But again, you should at least get the date of completion.

Sent a copy of my letter with the omissions highlighted and a request for a replacement letter today. I also suggested that it would sure make a nicer presentation for collectors if they would print the letter on nicer paper. I doubt that will happen though.

I have the same sort of service from Cody on Winchester the last letter I got from them I pointed out that the Gun was sold before it was manufactured. They at least corrected the letter I keep both copys with the gun. I find the letters interesting as to the history of the gun if there is something special associated with a high grade gun or a former owner of interest to the new custodian .

The $100 letter from Colt that the previous owner of my Model 1883 Hammerless Double got states that the finish is Blue and the stock is Wood!! The trigger guard and the top-lever are nitre blue!

Has the AHFCA ever considered producing their own Fox letters for graded guns?

I understand this might be too costly an endeavor for a non-profit organization.

But sure would be nice to get something of higher quality than what Savage currently offers.

Jason: Our only issue has been we do not have the back side of most cards which normally have a date (I am not sue if that date is the completion date, ship date or ????) and the pellet count for choke testing.

Just an update and an FYI: Savage did send a replacement letter with the previously omitted information included. No comments on my suggestion that a nicer product would be appreciated though .

Just want to confirm that the Savage Historian is essentially providing the same information we can get as a copy of the order card. The only difference instead of sending us a Xerox of the card he/she are sending us letter on their letterhead containing the same exact info? PS. I'm trying to decide if its worth getting a letter on my Super and I'm thinking its basically wasting my money.
