Safety comes on when firing?

Is it possible for the safety to come on when you pull the front trigger/fire the right barrel? I swear it happened to me twice today while shooting at a steep upward angle, I fired the right barrel and when I went to the rear trigger the safety was on. I've never taken a fox action apart so I can't say that I have any idea what's going up, but am I dreaming this up or is it possible?

Seems like a possible scenario if the safety spring is damaged or disconnected.

Does the safety have crisp on and off positions or does it slide ( more like flop) back and forth with no obvious resistance?

It's actually pretty stiff. I don't believe the gun has even been apart.

Sorry that thought didn't help.
Suggest someone qualified take the gun apart ... double trigger Foxes are so simple any mechanical problems should be
easy to spot and a bit of cleaning and lubrication after 100 years can't hurt.
