Fox Collectors

All that I have is the receiver. Engraving looks like standard HE pattern. Hopefully, the left side will clean up.
According to the card, there was a special pattern engraved on the barrel. We won't know unless the barrels turn up somewhere.
At one time it was a 7lbs. gun with 32" barrels and 3" chambers.

I'm planning on trying to bring it back to life. I have trigger plates and top-levers that I can fit.
Right now I am torn between gathering ejector receiver parts and a forend or using a beater Sterlingworth ejector, that I already have, as the donor for all of the parts.

At some point after it is functional, I will look into having the top-lever, trigger plate, and barrels engraved to match the frame.

Finding 32" graded barrels is going to be the hardest thing to find. That will be the long pole in the tent.

While that isn't much more engraving then an HE-Grade, it appears to my eye to be much better quality engraving. Also nice to see the frame has the higher grade rebates. Interesting find. I enjoyed doing that card.

I have found a set of 32" A-grade ejector barrels...But they are already fitted to the Chrome-Plated XE that I found 3 years ago.
The XE is a shooter for now. It will get de-plated, case colored and have barrel wedges engraved at some point.

I have a set of 32" Sterlingworth barrels that will likely end up on the D-Special, if they are wide enough to be fit to it.
They are 2-weight, if I remember correctly, so the gun would end up a bit heavier than original. I would have to fit ejectors to them, but that's not a problem.

I may strip a beater Sterly ejector and make a 28" & 32" set. I could use the snap on forearm and eventually change the barrel lugs to use a graded latch.

I do have an X-grade stock with rebates, but there is no telling if it would fit.

Deciding on the engraving pattern for the trigger plate will be a fun project.

Would the barrels have originally been Krupp or Chromax?

Is that a super fox frame?

That is a 5000 lower serial number then the first Super-Fox

Nice find and a very worthwhile restoration project. I personally would use a Deeley latched barrel. Just based on my own records the changeover from Krupp to Chromox in 12-gauge happened in the 23,000 s/n bracket. Yeah I know Fox didn't ship in exact s/n sequence and there will be some wide number exceptions. That 3-inch chambering is seen on record cards once in a while and I've measured a few original Foxes made thusly. JFI, those pre-Super-Fox guns were not marked 3-inch in any way.

Sometimes you come across high grade Fox components that make you scratch your head. Recent example is an early D-Grade stock with original finish, s/n 790x, that I got at the Northeast SxS in June. It came in a box with the name "Johansen" written on it. Not sure what I'll do with the stock as yet but it's a close fit on a 978x early A grade frame I found another time. No records available for either serial number.

The head scratching high grade fox component for me was a round knob X-Grade stock that had dowels fitted at both ends.
Obviously for use on a duplicator. Had no damage after the dowels were removed. Even the finish was in good shape.

Those are 30 inch Full and Full Chromox 4 weight barrels with SN 29271 by the way. They weigh 3 pounds 4 ounces. Would like to find the current owner of 29271 but if I don't, will market them.

Well, as a paper weight it beats the heck out of the head I broke off my 3 wood.

A seven pound 32" Fox with 3" chamber and 13 1/4" stock! Can anyone decipher the name of the customer so we can search for him?
