Snowy morning in Jawja

Awoke to a light drifting snow this morning. Grandson and I were supposed to go try a little duck pond, but he came up sick so had to go it alone. Used my 32" BE and Bismuth handloads (1 3/16 oz. #4). Three gadwalls dropped in and I managed to take two of them.
All my best, SRH

Great job, Stan! Good photos too. When does your duck season end? Ours ends Jan. 31st. I am going duck hunting tomorrow with 2 friends.

Thanks, all. I was hoping to get to go to the LVAAS this weekend, but our trip didn't work out for this year. I consoled myself with some time in the woods and water. I'm just an old swamp rat anyway. I was really disappointed when Jackson didn't get to go with me that morning.
The handloads I use in the BE are 2 3/4" bismuth loads, loaded in gray AA hulls! I can just imagine what it's going to be like the first time I'm checked by my local game warden and he asks to see my shells.

The look on his face is going to be priceless when I pull out those AAs! OTOH, he knows me pretty good, and probably of my passion for old doubles. It might not surprise him a'tall.

P.S. I'm sorry, Jim. I failed to answer your question ......... our season goes out the end of this month as well. Then it's quail and snipe for the month of February. Then, it's all over with nothing to shoot but those tough ol' orange birds.

Stan, my duck hunt Sunday was a mixed bag of Green Wing Teal and Gadwalls. Didn't even see a Mallard! I killed a drake Gadwall that was pretty big, 2 lb 4 oz on a digital scale. DU lists the average weight of a drake Gadwall at 2 lbs and a Mallard drake at 2 lbs 7 oz.

Stan, I think that Green Wing Teal are the best tasting wild duck. They certainly are better than Cinnamon Teal, which we have here in California, and I have not killed a Blue Wing Teal since I was growing up in Minnesota some 60 years ago, so I don't remember how they taste!

Stan those are beautiful pictures and that certainly is a long barreled Fox. Since I don't seem to harvest much game on my own, I really enjoy looking at pictures of other people's success (so keep them coming). This morning I was driving past Traverse Bay (Michigan) when I noticed about 300 diver ducks feeding in the calm waters. I didn't have any binoculars with me, but I thought they looked like redheads. Maybe not, but they were nice big divers. There's always next year.....

Thank you, Jeff. Comments like yours are comforting, in a way. I sometimes hesitate to post pictures of my hunts because I don't want to appear braggadocios. But, when I read that there are many who would like to be out there hunting, and can't, but enjoy pictures of other's hunts, it gives me impetus to continue.
All my best, Stan
