what did the hang tags look like on the graded guns and sterlingworths? How uncommon is it to locate one with its correct mate? thanks for your responses

I am sure one of the fortunate ones to have theirs will post a picture

You can often find repros on eBay

Finding your guns original? It could happen. Heck 3 people won the power ball

I once bought a 12-gauge A-grade from Randy Shuman and about five years later found the hang tag for it at the Forks of the Delaware gun show. Hang-tags changed over time. This is the earliest one I've ever seen is this one for A-Grade serial number 1025 that Jay Shacter had for sale a few years ago --

For a period of time 20-gauge hang-tags were red --

Early 12-gauge Sterlingworth hang-tags looked like this --

a bit later they looked like this --

From about 1908 to maybe WW-I they guns also had this FOX PROOF hang-tag attached --

Fakes of these are also available on ebay.

I'll have to look through more pictures to see what I have, but these are what I had loaded on Photobucket.

Here is a 12 gauge early style A grade with the original tag.

The tag implies "EJECTORS". The gun does not have ejectors.

bry76,

Nope, sorry, my nice condition early A is not available. Have had it so long it seems like it's part of me. In a couple weeks, will have had the gun 45 years. I might take it out and shoot it someday. I might, but probably not.

Thanks for your thanks and interest.

Jolly

Here is a hang-tag for a 20-gauge that would be from 1927 by the serial number chronology but obviously didn't make it out the door until the Savage years --

Here's the original tag for my Fox SBT. Looks like they just wrote "single" in on the card.

It's for this gun.

Wow, nice one Craig!

I know it's a small sample size, but it stands out to me that the guns posted in this thread that have their hang tags are all in exceptional condition. The same kind of owner who saw the hang tag as something important to keep with the gun, also took great care in the guns upkeep over the years.

Now, I'll sit and wait for someone to post a picture of a "boat paddle" still with it's hang tag.

Mike it appears the tag for your trap gun was filled out by the same person----the handwriting looks the same. Amazing. Craig
