Latest find - 2nd generation B in 16 gauge

I picked this up over the holidays. It definately is good to live within a half hour of the factory. Great grandson did not want great grandad's shotgun. Sad.

An unmolested 16 gauge 2nd generation B with a Prince of Whales round knob grip, double triggers and single bead. 6 lbs. 4 oz. on the button, 28 inch barrels. Biggest flaw is the scratch on the left side of the forened.

I'm going to like shooting this one.

I took a few phone pics on the tailgate of my pickup.

Thanks.

Interesting in that it has the snap on forend which if I remember correctly shows up on the earliest graded guns.

Perusing old posts it appears that the serial number (300340) might be on the low side for a Gough style engraved gun.

Researcher keeps this stuff noted so I'd love to hear from him on this one.

There is a lot to enjoy with this one. It just has a great feel in the hands.

I certainly do envy you fellas that live on the Eastern side. Sure must be troublesome tripping over all those fine guns wherever you turn?

Very nice find.

Here are a few more pics. It definately was no closet queen.

The length at 14 1/8th is way too short for me but a fat slip on will help.

Great gun. What I have observed is the engraving transition for 16-gauges is in the 300219 to 300227 range. I see your gun has the F.T. Russell style forearm fastening. The first 16-gauge with the Deeley latch I've recorded is 450, but I've recorded several Russell latch guns higher. In the 16-gauges so far, I've only recorded the Fox-Kremer snap-on/-off latch in the 3000xx range and all Chromox barrel guns. Then everything I've recorded up to at least 500 are Krupp barrels all with the Russell latch except for that one Deeley.

In 20-gauges I've recorded the Fox-Kremer latches up to 400 and there appears to be much more of a mix of Krupp and Chromox barrel steel?!?

I take it this is a Krupp barrel gun? Confirm.

Researcher,

Thanks for all your input.

Yes it is Krupps.
