Once more, my site access question

Every time I try to access this site the connection times out. Doesn't matter if I start from my bookmark or if I go to the web and start from scratch. I have AT&T and am using Firefox. I've tried Chrome and others; didn't matter. If I use a proxy server I can access but it's kind of a PITA. Does anyone have any ideas? Sorry to keep beating this drum but I just don't understand why. Thanks...

I have no idea why. It does not appear to be a problem on our end that I have been able to uncover.

I have a similar problem when accessing the site using one of the laptops that's about 7-8 years old. It usually takes a long time for the Fox site to come up, and sometimes it times out. Same with that computer when I want to get on Google, Gunbroker and many other sites - but for some reason the PGCA site usually responds within a few seconds. One of our sons looked at it over Christmas and he checked the updates status along with our router etc. Bottom line, he tells me the delay probably comes in because that laptop uses Windows Vista and its Internet Explorer is version 9 that's outdated, but 9 is the last IE that's compatible with Vista. :( He also downloaded Google Chrome to that laptop and the Chrome seems to work faster with the Fox and other sites but isn't quick by any means. On the other hand all the sites come right up when using other computers here with newer versions of Explorer and all the updates executed. Same internet service, same router, newer Windows and newer version of Explorer. I hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Yup, I'm using an older laptop running Vista; I guess that's probably my problem. Weird; this site it is the only site I have the problem with. I've known I need a new computer for a while now but have been putting it off; don't want the hassle, and there's other things I'd rather spend my money on. Guess I just need to bite the bullet and get 'er done! Thanks again.

My best wishes for the new year to all my Fox friends.

Just information for anyone struggling with an old computer. A new one may be less expensive than you think. Yesterday one of our sons messaged that he thought it best to replace that laptop and get Windows 10. So I won't be dealing with even more Vista issues years from now and by then it will be tougher to get used to a new operating system. Told him to go ahead and he scoped out and ordered a new notebook (laptop) that's probably a bit more than the average person needs. We are partial to Dell and went with an Inspiron with 8 GB RAM, 1 TB hard drive, Windows 10, 15.6-inch screen, DVD drive, touch screen as well as full keyboard, either can be used. Should be set for another 5-6 years or so. Best of all the price was only $405 delivered through a retailer on Amazon. A little lesser Dell will probably cost you about 300 bucks.

My new computer did help a bit with access to the Fox and some other sites but I still had occasional problems. I finally got them resolved and I'd like to report on that here, to close the loop and hopefully help others with access issues.

I was on "high speed internet service" with my phone company and after calling their tech people for help many times and being told to change router channels and settings, the access problems continued. One of our sons asked me to do a speed test (download speed) using the "Ookla speed test" that's easily found by searching for it on google etc. Once the Ookla screen comes up, initiate the "test" button and see what you get. My download speed was a max of about 1.6 Megabytes per second in the early morning and late at night, and would drop as low as 0.4 Mbps when people in my area were at home after work or on weekends, and the phone company's system was loaded up. Son was very surprised it was that low and commented that most of the websites require a much higher download speed for a reliable connection. And they're getting even more sophisticated all the time. So ..... I called my phone company and told them about my speed tests and they finally 'fessed up that 1.6 Mbps was about the most they could provide in my area due to its "system limitations". :o It would have been nice if they had told me that months ago. :x

I went ahead and changed my internet provider to my TV cable company that offers download speeds up to 100 Mbps. I went with 5 Mbps and bundled with my cable TV and I'll actually save about $600. in the first year and about $5.00 per month afterwards (as compared with my former so-called "high speed service" with the phone company). Woohoo, more money for shooting. I've done many speed tests since switching over and I'm getting about 7.5 Mbps download speed even though I'm paying for 5. Best of all I can boost the download speed in increments if I want to in the future, with just a phone call to the cable company.

Right now I can get on the Fox or any of the websites within 1-2 seconds, day or night. Also, I can use my old laptop that has Windows Vista and it will access most any site within a few seconds more. However it's my understanding that Vista will become "unsupported" in a few months and after that it will be vulnerable to cyber attacks.

Anyway, if you're having Fox/other site access problems you may find this is helpful. It's probably not a website problem if most others have no issues with that site. Most likely with your computer or internet provider. Technology keeps moving forward. frank
