Factory Letter from Callahan

I just received a factory letter from J.T. Callahan and it has information I have never seen in any of my other letters--can anyone help? It is a 1914 XE 20 ga. 26" barrels IC/MOD Weight 5 1/2 lbs. shipped to Abercrombie & Fitch in NYC. Under the notes section it says: "Rush, Silvers Pad, Lyman Sights, Single Trigger, to be set ahead of rear position, easy trigger pull, select curly wood, bore out about 3 oz. strike 2 oz. from barrels, initials "BJC" inlaid in stock in gold letters 1/4" high."

The gun has been restocked, so it has lost the "select curly wood" stock and the "inlaid gold letters 1/4" high". I would have loved to have seen the gun in 1914---anyone have a time machine???? Most of the information I understand, but the "bore out about 3 oz. strike 2 oz. from barrels", seem to be the same. Is this just to make the barrels lighter, or is this two different things? The chambers measure 2 1/2". Of all the letters I have seen, I have never seen this kind of request. Has anyone gotten a letter with this request and what does it mean? Thanks

I've seen virtually the same thing in a letter. I beleive the "bore out" means hollowing out the stock.

Abner, check out DGJ Volume 15 Issue 4 (winter 2004) page 82. Exactly what you are talking about on a dandy little 20ga BE. Let me know if you dont have that issue. Marshfellow
