I barely knew him, but every contact I had with him belied the kind and generous nature of the man - and the bravery. Please keep us informed as funeral arrangements are finalized. Thanks, Kevin

I spent time with David at the Southern this past April and same as Kevin, I was impressed with his bravery. He knew his time was short and was walking on one leg and with crutches, but his attitude was same as when we first met at a Pintail VC years earlier. What a mark of a man. The Fox Faithful have lost a friend and one of the good guys. Rest in peace my friend.

Another one of David taken while there. I've cropped out some other folks in this pic.

I'll miss David's visits to our tables at the Chantilly, VA gun show. It was always "show and tell" for us and for him also. Sorry to hear this terrible news. Bill Murphy

I know I speak for the entire AHFCA Board in offering our sincere condolences to David's family and friends. We had so hoped to hear of another hard-fought recovery, his exploits in the turkey woods or plans for another April trip to The Southern. Inexplicable why he was dealt such a miserable hand. I like to think that the time he spent here amongst friends and with his treasured Foxes, provided at least a temporary respite from his undue pain and suffering. RIP, Sarge. :( :( :(

Never met Dave, but prayed for him during his illness. Would like to have gotten to know him. Maybe we will meet up one day ...... across the river.

Godspeed, Top.

We talked on the phone on occasion usually when we were both trying to run down the same Fox. :) Also lots of exchanges on the internet about various Foxes. We both spent time in Japan and both brought back a bunch of guns (mine were 30 years earlier however). Had that in common for sure. Good guy. Will miss his exchanges. We talked about his health from time to time but it was never the emphasis behind our discussions. David was continuing to chase Foxes till the end. I think having something to focus on and keep your mind on is a good way to battle all kinds of issues that might otherwise drag one down. Anyway, sorely missed for sure.

I met Dave many times and always walked away amazed by his emotional strength and ability to face long odds with an amazing attitude. Sad day and he will be missed.

We are looking for help in how to sell David's gun collection, which inudes his Fox guns.
David has 4 children, the youngest being 6 years old. For their future the family wants to get as much as they can for them.
Is anyone willing to help evaluate his collection and give advice on the best way to sell them?
The arrangements for David's funeral have not been made as of today. It takes 7-10 days for Walter Reed to return his body back home to the Lynchburg area.
Thank you very much.

There are a number of ways to go about selling David's collection (e.g., listing for private sales, general auction, dedicated auction of his guns only, etc.). How many guns are involved? For general auctions the consignment fee and seller's fee are important considerations to think about in returning maximum profit to the family. A dedicated (local) auction usually costs less and helps to ensure a proper presentation and preview of the items and eliminates shipping & handling to a large degree. A listing and solicitation for private sale allows interested parties to make offers on specific guns but usually takes a much longer period of time. There are individual buyers (not major dealers) who will occasionally buy an entire collection for resale, but most will insist on purchasing the entire collection at a set price. All important things to think about in ensuring fair returns to the family.
