You have what appears to be a nice original condition A grade AH Fox Shotgun. The early style A grade is the most common graded Fox shotgun. I estimate 18500 early A grade 12ga guns were produced. It is very difficult to judge a shotgun from pictures I would guess your gun has a retail value of $1500-$2100.

fox-admin,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Is gunbroker.com my best bet to sell this?
Does anyone know any dealers around the Myrtle Beach, SC area that I could contact for a more thorough appraisal?
Thanks,
Dan

Gun Broker, Guns International, Guns America all seem to work. I do not know a dealer in your area that could give you an appraisal. Remember the price a gave you is a rough estimate for retail, the price will be based on condition. Your pictures make it very difficult to judge condition.

From the fore end serial no., your gun was made in1909. Just shy of a hundred years old. Appears in usable condition. By the photos, the all over finish is fair to poor. If the bores are not pitted, you might get $1000 for it. That's just a guess from the photos.

Is it my imagination, or does the forend look to be in much better condition than the rest of the gun?

Geesh George, For a guy that's not a dealer and has guns for sale all over the internet claiming to just be trying to reduce your collection, you sure seem to be in the buying mode.
I thought that selling/buying gun's on this site to be a thing of the past! Did I miss something?

The forend is usually protected by your hand when using the buttstock to BEAT the brush back.

Fore end wood in this part of the country usually takes it just as bad as the stock. Diagonal dents were caused by pheasant hunters pushing the fore end down on barbed wire fence to get across it.(previous to the use of electric fence) 2 of my guns had ample evidence of this.

OK, who is "George" that FRBRIT seems to be having a bitch-slap battle with? I can't figure out who it is. If we are going to be gentlemen here, maybe we have to start using our real names like they do on the other site. I'm almost ready to write that big check, but I'll hold off until I find out whether our administrator decides to eliminate this "problem". Some of my best friends in the Fox Collectors group use noms de plume and I can't remember who the heck they are. I am Bill Murphy and I live in Maryland. I am going to change my profile today.

I had good intentions, tried to change my profile several times but failed. I guess I'll have to live with my non de plume until I can figure out how to put my real name in my profile. I can't seem to get past the "the email address you selected is already in use" when I try to register under my name. This happens even after I erase my email address from my old profile. When I go into my profile and try to change my screen name, it won't erase. Oh well. I do like the A Grade in the pictures. I'm a sucker for original, unaltered, field used bird guns.

As I remember the post, "George" was George L. of the South Carolina land developers. He was just offering to look at the gun and offer a price.
Barb wire and hunting - aint trying to argue, but I hunted with some pretty tired guns in west Jersey and would have used one to push down barb wire only once. That sore spot in my backside would have cured me from then on.

Also, Thanks NJdblgun. As you said, I was merely offering to look at his Fox and offer the little knowledge that I possess. I would love to turn all of my other guns into quality Fox guns.
Best Regards, George Lander

Hi Everyone,
Let me start this out by apologizing to our new member drountr and welcoming him to the forum. This gentleman came here looking for information and advice about his inherited Fox. He was being given some good advice by the members here and things were looking good. If I had more time the day of my last post I may have chimed in with my two cents worth as well, like I have with other new members in the past. Rather than the quick quipt that I posted!
Now I'll attempt to explain my post about George Lander. I was taking one last look at the site on my way out the door before I headed to the airport for a business trip. I came across Georges post and unfortunately it just stuck me wrong at the time. The history that lead me to the post is that a few months ago George posted several dozen guns for sale over on the Doublegun BBS site in the members guns for sale section. This post took up several pages and swamped the site for other members trying to sell their guns. This ended up being quite the controversy over there that produced discussion threads several pages long about how the site was for private sellers and not dealers. George claims to be a private seller reducing his collection and helping another sell his. This may be true and if it is I wish George all the luck in selling his wares!
What hit me wrong here was that we just went through the discussion about Craig pulling the guns for sale section off this site and with the new organization it hasn't returned. This is fine by me simply because Craig and the board made that decision for this group. In this case this was the first post I've seen George make here and the perception that I took was that possibly after watching the recent past history with George on other sites he may possibly have a profit motive rather than the pure one of helping a new member out with his questions about his gun. In his post George did say he would look at the gun a possibly tender an offer for it. This is fine except for the fact that we can no longer buy and sell guns on this part of the forum.
This is America and I'm a firm believer in our free enterprize system. Items are bought and sold for profit all the time. It's just in this case I wanted our new member drountr to know that there are those that may not want his inherited gun for thier personal collection but may simply want it to sell for profit. We all buy and sell guns from time to time to better our collections and gosh only knows I have. I just wish this would have been done by personal mail "PM" rather than the open forum.
My advice to drountr is to surf the net, look at the other gun sites,be as informed as you can be, so you can find your personal comfort zone, there's a chance you'll see George selling some Foxes on some of these sites.
George I hold nothing against you and I welcome you to this site. I'm sure you have a lot of knowledge to share with us in the future and I truly am sorry if we got off on the wrong foot here. Thanks for your concern but my candy does still have red on it.
