SBT J Barrel Lengths

Post by Witty1 »

Hi Fox Guys,

Roaming a local gun show a few weeks ago I found a SBT J Grade the tag said "32 inch Barrels, Ejector, condition 95%." Best of all was told in sat in a closest for 60 years and was at an affordable price. I looked it over and noticed the wood was cut and had a wrong modern recoil pad and fresh cut checkering (strange). The Barrel inside looked good, when I ask are the Barrels 32 inches ? I was told yes and the Dealer held it up to a 30 inch gun to show they were longer and 32 according to him. I did ask for a tape measure but was told by the gun dealer he didn't have one. I was in a hurry and left the show turned off by the short wood.

The more I thought about it I could live with cut wood and went back to the show on Sunday with my inspection tools (Tape Measure, Bore Gauge, Snap Caps, etc...) . The J was still there with a LOP of 12 3/8 the Dealer thought it was 14 inches.

Now to my surprise the Barrel measured 31 3/8? I was told it was stock? Seems to me the J Trap Gun only came in 30 and 32 inch, did anyone ever hear of a 31 1/2 + or - an 1/8 ? Before I go to the trouble of having the card pulled?

Best Regards,

SBT guns can measure short. See this old post. I do not own a trap but maybe someone that does can post a picture of what the barrel end should look like.
