Comrades,
The telegraph lines were buzzing about some hand-to-clay combat in the Empire State this past weekend? Heard rumors that Team Fox settled for a draw with Team Winchester amidst high winds and raw temperatures? Any reports to corroborate that statement? Proof-of-life photos?? Who took part in this skirmish?

Here is part of my gang------we don't keep score but we do have a heck of a time. I have no idea who won what. Made a big purchase of RST's.

Too cold and windy to take pics. This is the only one I have. Ross on the left was high SxS man on the first flight with an 89 ex 100 ..... excellent shooting with a Fox 12-gauge Pin gun. Mountain Mike is on the right. Three Foxes in the rack, the Pin Gun, an A and AE - all 12 bores. Mike should have more details on team placements.

In a prior life, my office at EPA did a major drinking water protection project (e.g., Sole Source Aquifer) with an Oneida tribe on the Tug Hill Plateau. As we reviewed and examined the site, I often thought what a great area it would be for a well-run sporting clays operation. Looks like you gents found it! Kevin

It was a fun day!! I was awarded HOA with a 90 with my 20g SW, Ross was awarded HOA Sub-Gauge with a 72 with his Uggie. Team Fox and Team Winchester did tie, don't recall what the score was. Both teams are going on the plaque as a tie. Frank shot well too, he had an 88, Jim Kline shot an 84. I had rectal optosis with my 12g and posted an 82. Started on station 5, had a 92 going as we went on to station 1 and I proceeded to derop 10 targets over the final 4 stations.

Steaks were excellent as usual, seasoned nicely and still pumping blood on my plate!! A good time was had by most!!

Actually, this year's weather was better than last year. This year it was 35, windy, overcast with AM flurries. Last year it was 30, high winds, cloudy and blizzard conditions!! Maybe next year we'll see some sunshine and no snow on the ground or in the air!!

All those 80's and we tied?? Man, team Winchester must have some serious
TALENT!! Nice shooting boys. Keep that "edge" honed for Hausmann's. Sounds like the "Matrons" will be out for blood.
FIRST BLOOD, as I recall.

Well, I've got to chime in. I'm so glad that from all reports (Ive heard) everyone enjoyed themselves at the RGS shoot at Vernon National Shooting Preserve. I'm happy to say that it is my "home club" and has been from it's inception about 12 or something years ago. The targets are always great and CONSTANTLY changing. Dad and I starting going there way back when well before there was a Sporting or even a 5-stand range... or a club house or much of anything... we donated a bunch a plastic outdoor chairs to sit on. The pheasant shooting is some of the best with the birds being released constantly throughout the season with plenty of differing covers to challenge the dogs & hunters. These are good flying birds.... not the ones that the dogs catch on the ground that barely fly like many preserves.
The barn has been transformed into a comfortable clubhouse complete with much seating, big TV, full kitchen and fully stocked pro-shop with guns, ammo & clothing for sale...plus more. There are even two quality full size pool tables for indoor recreation. Ron, the owner, and his staff see to it that everyone is attended to. Our Tuesday night "cut & grill your own steak as big as you want it" is a nice weekly treat.
I hope that anyone passing thru Central NY who wants to shoot some nice targets takes the time to shoot there....pretty much 7 days a week. The clays range is fully automated with card readers for the targets so no trapper or hoopla is required.... just go out and shoot. Just miles from the NYS Thruway (I-90) and accommodations are plentiful including the Turning Stone Casino with wonderful rooms/restaurants/spa etc. and many other name hotels.
Oh, by the way for anyone wondering why I wasn't there, unfortunately this nice SxS shoot was scheduled at the same time I was in Tulsa for the gigantic Tulsa gun show... makin gun deals.
I wish the weather was better for those who attended the shoot... ironically the weather was absolutely sunny & gorgeous yesterday & today... missed it by a lousy 48 hours!!!

Yeah, Tom, only a wee bit over 2 hours South that day it was sunny and 40's!! Ron's done a nice job converting that old "barn" into what the clubhouse is today. BTW, if anyone goes to VNSP, take some "dollars" along to bet with Ron.

Mike,
Good advice, dollars for friendly shooting wagering & quarters for pool table bets..... ALL IN GOOD FUN! Looking forward to Syracuse gun show this weekend eventhough its a pimple compared to Tulsa.
