Fox Collectors

Hello my names eddie gagne im a landscaper and a student from Vermont. i started looking for information on foxes since i purchased a sterlingworth this past fall and came across this site. Ive been lurking for a little while now and decided i would like to ask questions and maybe if at all give advice. It looks like theres a bunch of very experienced shooters and a wealth of knowledge on this forum. I look forward to discussing these fine guns and their histories with you folks.

Ed, welcome to the site. You are correct, there are a lot of dedicated and savvy Fox guys here. I'm sure the members can answer any questions you might have. If you are available on the weekend of May 16 -18, consider driving down to the Hidden Hollow PA side by side event. A bunch of Fox enthusiasts will be there. See our Events tab and look for the Hidden Hollow link toward the end of the writeup.

its to late for me, i find myself on gunbrokers late at night looking for fox guns even though i have barely enough money to make the usual payments a 21 yr old college student has. i just dropped off the sterlingworth at a local smith to have the lose stock repaired. its gonna be some time before i get it back because hes going to be at several shows this late winter early spring.

i would love to go to that show but i will be in westlake ohio (hopefully) for the westlake decoy competition/show im bringing to decoys to enter and hope to come home with some ribbons.

Eddie, I go to the Westlake show every year, I am interested in the antique decoys. Are you a waterfowl hunter??

i must say i am a hunter of many things one of them being waterfowl and since a rig of hand carved whitetail deer is a little big and too time consuming to carve im focused on waterfowl most of the time. ducks bucks and toms and if i get a chance after our late deer season i'll track hunt patridge. i'll work on getting some pictures up of my birds.

Very nice decoys, when I was your age I made all my working decoys, I still have a rig of bluebills that I made 30 years ago. Your Sterlingworth sure has a nice stick of wood on it, very nice.

thanks. im bringing one of my whistlers and a black duck to westlake. yea the s'worth i didnt even notice the wood until i got it home. i had told the guy that worked at the local gun shop maybe 3 years ago that i was looking for an old fox. one day this past bow season i was filling up at the station across the road and he comes running out and yells to me that they had a fox in. the owner of the store had bought it from a guy for 800 bucks at noon that day, i went in at 2 and asked how much he wanted he said it was going on the internet but if i wanted it he'd let me have it for 1000. i told him i would be in tomorrow to put money down on it and after 3 weeks of payments and moving some money around i took it home. after looking at some other s'worths on gunbroker i realized i got quite a deal. the wood is beautiful and has no scratches or dings. it was fixed at the back of the tang a while back with what looks like wood filler but its barely noticeable. i plan to have the stock refinished because the refinish job that was done on it looks like polyurethane and has drip marks. its going to be a shooting gun and a hunting gun so im not to concerned with resale value.
