Fox Collectors

Here are some photos of a Sterlingworth that I'm building. It's almost ready for stocking. Thought you guys might like to see it.

Dewey, that's going to be one special piece !!! To say I am impressed is an understatement. I love the treatment on top of the action much less the false sideplates. Please keep on sending those pictures. Oh yeah, as an engraver, I am very pleased with your most excelent polishing job ---the receiver obviously never saw a buffing wheel. Dewey, This is just an amazing example of fine art. You have so many wonderful touches here it takes a while looking at it to absorb everything you've done. I'm not much of a false side plate type of guy, but I have to hand it to you this is the first side plated Fox I've seen. I'm really looking forward to see how it's engraved.

Thanks for the replies and compliments. Paul, the reason I made the false sideplates is because I wanted to do something other than the fancy-back usually seen on Fox customs. I'm thinking of W&C Scott style cocking indicator windows in the sideplates. The design I came up with would use a spring-loaded flag that would be pushed into alignment with the window by the backs of the hammers when the gun was cocked. As far as engraving, I've not decided on any design or amount of coverage yet.

Dewey ---- with the amount of work invested so far and that still to come, a great deal of thought re. the scratching would serve you well toward building the ideal piece. Many guys just flat don't give enough thought to what the overall look will be when job is finished. Fortunately, I do have clients who will work with me in regards to coverage, style of scrolol, game scenes or not, gold usage or not and so on. My suggestion to clients is to try and picture the look that will make you most happy when gun is complete. Please continue to post pictures as gun develops. Ken

As a matter of fact, yes. I made and installed the Scott style cocking indicators that I had earlier mentioned. The indicators are spring-loaded pivoting flags that roll against the rear of the hammers. Here's a photo.

Mr. Dewey ---- when are you going to pleasure us with more pictures and present state of this new Fox gun ? I'd bet there are many here that would really enjoy seeing how much further along you've come. ken

Gents, I have had the honor of engraving this piece Mr. Dewey has churned out. It is so much nicer than the pictures show !! It will be on display at the Vintagers in Md. soon. Ken
