I believe this is one of the early models made in 1911 from the serial number.
The receiver has been blued.
I am not sure if the stock is original or remade?
This was my grandpas gun and passed down to me recently.
I am curious exactly what I have here.

The only problem the gun has is you have to push the lever to close it.
Is that normal for this gun or is something broken and needs fixed?
Is it fixable if broken?

What will it take to have the receiver case hardened like it should be?
Is it doable or worth it?

I plan to keep it as my pheasant gun and use it
Not interesting in selling it but am curious of its value.

Thanks for any information you guys can share!
Callaojoe saw it at work today and it performed great!
Looking forward to learning some stuff!

Any refinishing would be money wasted. It's a nice Fox and should be enjoyed as it is. The top lever spring should be replaced. Your location would figure into who would do it for you.

Welcome aboard. As Bill said, one need only address the mechanical problems and the gun should be good to go for shooting purposes. Whether or not getting the metal correctly refinished is worth it to you, for a family heirloom, is something only you can decide. The gun has definately been restocked. The Sterlingworth forearm fastening was found to be a bit problematical/marginal for the recoil stresses of a 12-gauge, and in the late years Savage used the Deeley lever forearm fastening of the graded guns on many of the beavertail forearms on their Fox-Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Game Guns.
