Friday dawned a beautiful blue sky day, after rain for most of the week, so I took Skitso out to Miller Ranch to visit some of her Pheasants. "Meat in the Pot" my 100 year old A-Grade 12-gauge with 28-inch Krupp 3-weight barrels, now in her 49th season with me did the honors --

Good to see that Meat in the Pot is still taking care of business. By the looks of it, I'd say Skitso had a fine day with the roosters. Thanks for sharing.

Way to go Dave!! That's one hell of a day! Care to venture a guess how much game ol' "Meat 'n the Pot" has brought to the table during those 49 years? We must be registering in tons by now???

BTW----what's your favorite Fox load for pheasant? Are you shooting RST factory shells? I'm going out Tuesday and just hand-loaded a box of 1 oz., 5's at @ 6800psi. It's my pet 1-oz clays load, kicked up with a bit more powder. I think they will do the trick.

Actually from December 1973 when I was home on leave on my way to Alaska, until my Father passed away in October 1998, "Meat-in-the-Pot" stayed at his house in Seattle, and only got used when I was home on vacation. My years of living and working in the Washington DC area, my birds were mostly Doves and Geese, neither being Meat in the Pot's forte. I did trips to the Heartland each year 1999 to 2001, where "Meat-in-the-Pot" got good use. I do know that during my college years my Father and I ended the season with 46 ducks and 47 pheasants in the freezer my Junior year, and 47 and 48 my Senior year. All wild birds in those days. With the clean farming now there aren't a tenth of the Pheasants in the Columbia Basin there were in my college days. In those times we quite often did dinner parties for 16 where I roasted eight stuffed Mallards or eight stuffed Pheasants serving each diner a half a bird. Not sure I could find 16 people to eat wild game nowadays. Bonnie and I have eaten a lot of Pheasant since I got Skitso in 2005!! And, most years we take a lot of frozen Pheasant to Kodiak where they are appreciated. I've got six breast filets in the fridge to cook tomorrow.

Nice work Dave and Skitso.

Some vintage paper Peters 16 #6 worked on pheasant in PA last week, speaking of pheasant loads in foxes.
