Hello,

This is my first post.
I'm looking into buying a 12 gauge A H Fox C Grade.
It has Krupps barrels that are 30", a single trigger with barrel select, the stock length may have been shortened it is 13" with a recoil pad.

On thing I can't find an example of is the stock has no checkering?
Can this be a replacement stock?
Also the splinter fore stock is darker in color than the stock.

Thanks in advance

Rocky

I'd bet that the stock has been replaced. Is the fore end checkered?

Yes the Fore end is checkered and slightly darker in color.

The fore end release is also darker looks almost blued.

I'm not sure what this does to the value and I'm not sure what to offer?

The serial numbers match on the metal, barrels, etc

Welcome, Rocky.

Allow me to offer a few suggestions.

1) Go to our Homepage, click "Fox gun grades" then "CE grade directory". Over in the red box on the left you will see three beautiful examples of C-grade Fox guns. Granted, these are high condition specimens but you'll at least get some idea of what a factory original one looks like.

2) Spend some time on Gunbroker or Guns International looking at C-grades currently for sale and the condition/price ranges of each.

3) If you're seriously considering dropping a few grand on a Fox, why not join our little parish? For a $30 annual membership you will receive one FREE factory card lookup (a $25 value) that will provide the basic specifications of this gun as it left the factory. Unless it's a Fox with a serial # below 9,800, there's a good chance we have the factory card.

4) It's very difficult for even an expert ( which I'm not) to accurately assess the condition of a Fox without at least looking at some detailed pictures, however based on the brief description you provided I would proceed with caution. A 13" LOP even on a single trigger gun sounds a bit short to me and I have heard some nightmares regarding stock alterations and the proper functioning of such. You also mention "no stock checkering?" Perhaps the checkering is so worn that it's now undetectable? If that' the case, this baby has probably been "rode hard" as someone would have to do one hell of a lot of shooting ( or carrying) to achieve that level of wear.

5) C-grade Fox guns, while not for sale on every street corner, are fairly common, especially 12 gauge, 30" models. Take your time, do your homework and try to provide us with some more detailed info. Again, just my two pennies worth. Good luck in your quest.

Thank you very much Tool Man.

I have done many of the things you suggested and have learned a lot.

It may have saved me a couple of thousand in the process as well.

I will take my time and learn more before I take the plunge.

At first I was really impressed by this gun but after doing some homework I think I will find a better one.

Thanks Again

Rocky
