I have watched this site for some time, enjoyed it and learned but have not been a participant. Now that I have taken interest in the CSMC Foxes I question why there is absence of this topic on the site.???

Good question.

I think there a few different reasons. One is cost of a CSMC Fox as compared to the original Fox on today's market. Also the fact that CSMC only makes high grade guns and probably the bulk of the shooters here don't possess a factory C grade or higher original Fox, so the comparison is different. Also, for the current cost of a CSMC C grade ($21,000 with upgraded wood) Fox you can probably purchase a pretty nice original Fox small bore gun (not counting the 28 gauge or .410 of course). Frankly, most folks who have 22 grand to spend would rather have a Philly made 20 or 16 gauge Fox as compared to the same thing in a CSMC. Just one person's opinion of course.

PS. Just checked an there is a CE grade 20 gauge Fox on Gunsinternational listed for $17,500 with really nice circassian walnut and english stock. I'd surmise most on this board would prefer that gun to a $22,000 for a CSMC gun in the same configuration. I personally don't find anything wrong with the CSMC Foxes and would love to own one in a 28 gauge, but don't have the 25K to make it happen. Now if that lottery ever happens. :)

I can buy into your answer! I originally wondered if they were not considered to be part of the "family".

The difference in the amount of squack on the site here about CSMC Fox doubles and original guns probably has more to do with numbers. There were nearly 200000 original Fox doubles produced by A.H. Fox Gun Co. and Savage Arms Corp. The number of guns produced by CSMC is miniscule according to the annual production reports provided to the BATFE. The total number of Ansley H. Fox doubles produced in New Britain is very likely still in three digits.

Tony must have misplaced the order I sent him for one of his first CE Grades. The $5650.00 check was never cashed for some reason.

I bought a new CE 20 ga from Tony years ago.It was a beautiful gun and I paid $7500 for it.Never fired it and sold it four or five years later for what I paid for it. I have never been very smart holding on to guns to sell years later for a big profit! Bobby

Wonder how many more CSMC Foxes would be sold if they rolled prices back about 50%. I'd order one for that amount of money in a heartbeat. Actually do wonder how many they make in an average year.

The total number of guns they produce in a year is still quite small. I haven't found every year's BATFE report online, but here us what I've found --

1998 -- 77
1999 -- 85
2000 -- 68
2001 -- 64
2002 -- 83
2003 -- 123 35 Woodland St.
2004 -- 119 100 Burritt St.
2005 -- 89
2006 -- 352
2007 -- 1683
2008 --
2009 -- 1175
2010 --
2011 --
2012 -- 573
2013 --

From information I picked up at the Southern, CSMC may not be producing A H FOX guns any longer. Main "gunmaker" has left and there appears to be preference to machine made guns that fit cookie cutter molds.

I'd be glad to buy a "cookie cutter" CSMC Fox with no engraving and inletted but unfinished wood.

I purchased my XE in 1998 for $11K, it lists for $22K now. Try to find a Philly XE small bore with some condition for $22K, just try to find any Philly XE! Even really good small bore CE's are pushing 20K.
They are nice guns I love mine but they are what they are. I have used mine for 16 years and could probably recoup the original price.
Not a good investment but I have had 16 years of enjoyment and shot a bunch of game from Maine to Texas to Argentina. Hopefully, I will enjoy it for another 16 years.

To each his own .

But for me I have no intrest in buying any of the Galazan remakes be it Fox or Parker .

Same goes for the Parker Repro's that were made in Japan .

Bob, who is supposed to be the main gunmaker who has left CSMC? Rich Wilson, who oversees manufacture, told me yesterday that the same people are still building the guns.

I just wish they would sell parts. I know there are perhaps liability issues, but I'd sign a waiver. That is of course assuming they would fit the older 20/16 gauges.

Anybody seen Bob around? I'm looking for clarification of the above statement.
