Who pays shipping?

Hi,
I have just purchased my first fox from an on line gun selling site.
The seller is a professional gun broker.
Monday he is to send the gun for the 3 day review period.
My question is, what is the usual and customary protocol on who pays for the shipping and insurance when the dealer sends the gun to the potential buyer?

BTW,
I have also sent in my application and dues to become a member of your club.
Thank you,

Vernal

The buyer typically, unless the listing specifically said the shipping was included. On the otherhand, if the listing was misleading or downright fraudulent and you want to send it back you could make the case about it but good luck. Sometimes you are lucky just to get your money back.

Normally the buyer pays shipping both ways. If you are doing business with an established dealer returning a gun with in the three-day period will not be a problem. Welcome to the ahfca.

I appreciate your advice on shipping protocol.

My next question:
When I am a member of the AH Fox Collectors association, is there a members only forum where we can talk about specific guns for sale! prices! etc. , or are such discussions still off-limits?
I might want to ask if somebody has such and such gun available for sale that I may want and which an individual might want to sell.
Will this be permissible as a club member on private side?

Short answer yes. Guns for sale and discussion is no problem on the private members only forums. We do not allow commercial businesses to advertise on the private forums.

Hello! I am new to this form and love it! I have been in love with Fox guns for well over 40 years. I have just started to rebuild my collection. For various reasons I had to sell off a great number of great old guns and now that I am retired I have started to purchase what I have able to find and afford. My first love is the 16ga Fox guns. I found a Sterlingworth with 30inch barrels and refinished wood with professionally re blued barrels for only $1,000. I considered that to be a bargain!

The question as to who pays for shipping on internet sales is a good one. I have been buying and selling guns via the internet for many years. First there is no hard and fast rule when it comes to who pays. That and price are key negotiation factors.
Once you have asked a lot of questions as to condition and decided to take a chance on a shotgun, then start on the shipping cost....connect that to the price as an "out-the-door" net price....example...gun advertised at $1,695...plus $40 shipping charges....start with offering $1,550 including shipping (remember you can always go up once the negotiations start but never down) you are trying to find the sellers best price and save on shipping....this works...often after some give and take. Whenever I deal with Cabelas I remind them I have a Cabelas Club Visa Card and have never paid for shipping...that is a fact....also note you can negotiate price on any used gun listed by Cabelas on the internet. If you visit their site often and remember a gun you have an interest in as having been on their site for months or even years try a low ball offer and tell them you know the gun has been on their shelves for a long time. They often have very fat margins on used guns having got them real cheap as a trade in.
VERY IMPORTANT: if you ever get a gun from Cabelas that has a defect that they did not disclose when you asked about condition when on the telephone prior to finalizing the sale you can demand that they absorb 100% of the return shipping and insurance. They will refund it all. I know this because it happened to me. I made it clear I'd call their Corporate Headquarters if I was not 100% Happpy-Happy-Happy.....they even threw in a free gift card as an apology for the error.

Hope this helps someone. Never forget to ask a lot of questions when dealing with internet sellers.
I feel most comfortable dealing with "confirmed sellers" on gunsinternational.com....never had any problems with any of them. Always beware of unknown internet sellers with no history or track record.
