Fox Collectors

This 32” barreled Super Fox HE was restored by Brad Bachelder of Grand Rapids Michigan.

This HE was restocked by Daniel Aubihl of Sycamore Ohio in American Black Walnut Walnut with a Parker ball grip.

Very nice, Mark. I'm curious about the blued safety slide. Is that the way they came from the factory? I've never seen one in high enough factory condition to notice that. It really makes it "pop".

Brad is pretty darn accurate in his restorations. That said, I have to assume that it is correct being blued. Also, being such a small part the safety slide would have to be case hardened at a lower temperature than the action. That extra step of removing the safety slide from the case hardening batch of parts would be enough for me to decide to blue them if I were in charge of production.

Matt, I am sure Brad Bachelder did the colors. He did all metal work in house.

I own that gun now and the case colors are pretty much gone. If that helps . . .

Hopefully, one of you guys that "straddles the fence" (Fox / Parker) can help explain the different grips to me. On a Fox shotgun, such as a CE or XE. I'll sometimes see a half pistol grip with checkering that follows the round knob. At this beginning of the thread, the custom stock on the HE is said to have Parker "ball grip". Is there a difference between a Fox half round grip, and a Parker ball grip? Sincerely, Jeff

Hello, my name is Daryl and I'm a straddler.

I have a Parker double trap with what is considered a ball grip. It is much more bulbous that a Fox half pistol but is not unwieldy and quite attractive. The link to the Parker site can show it in detail.

I was under the impression the true Parker Bros. "Ball Grip" was only on the earlier hammer guns. On the hammerless guns it was a half-pistol grip and didn't have the bulbous flare to the bottom. Misuse of the "ball Grip" term is rampant.

My VHE trap is, of course, a hammerless with the ball grip similar to examples 2nd and 3rd. from the left in the photo.

I've seen a number of high grade Parkers and a number of .410 Parkers with them. All hammerless.

I think in my twisted world, I would call those ball grips "bee sting" grips. Looks like a regular half pistol fox grip that stung by a hornet and swelled up.
