Perfect day. 8" of fresh snow kept the birds from running. Deacon was his ususal stellar self and pointed all the birds. I LOVE hunting with this 16g SW!! I especially liked the melanistic rooster. Love the different colors of many of these birds.

Great job!!. I put one of my 20 ga SW's in the truck this morning and the 2 setters. I work 'til noon today and will then go out and try to find a few pheasants. I'm not sure of the proper term for that color phase of pheasant,(kind of like a piebald deer), but melanistic phase birds are primarily very dark/almost black in appearance. Either way, it sure is a striking bird.

Interesting bird. Can't say I have ever seen one before. Definitely not in person.
