I finally got to pattern some loads with Nice Shot 4's.

Wasn't pleased with the results. I'm hoping to get my hands on a more tightly choked sterly ASAP to compare with my open choked skeet and upland.

Load was with SR7625 and winchester components. I'd suggest using untappered hulls as my loads barely fit in the hull.

The fact that the pattern is high is consistent with previous patterning of lead target and field loads.

I don't think I'll be using this gun/load on birds lol.

As for the gun, hitting high for rising birds, do not discount out of hand unless this does not compliment the way you shoot or what you plan to shoot at. As for the load, maybe you can tweek components to get a better pattern. It may not just be the fault of the nice shot.

I don't believe it was the fault of the nice shot at all. I am no expert in ballistics and can only speak experiencially but some loads just don't pattern well in some guns.

I love my S&U for upland birds! However for decoying ducks I don't think it will be ideal.

I'd like to get some federal paper hulls and wads with a slightly deeper shot cup. In assembling these shells I used a 1 1/8oz was to hold 1oz (by weight) of 4 shot and I still needed to remove a few pellets to get a proper crimp.

What is the gun choked at and how far away? It looks pretty sparse like you are saying, but it all depends on how far you were away. The second looks like it would work even though it is high.

The distance was 35 yards and the chokes were skeet cylinder and quarter choke (IC)

I haven't duck hunted much, but that actually might work at 35yards over decoyed ducks in the timber. Pass shooting, yeah, that might be a little loose.

Anyway, someone with a little more knowledge on that subject will chime in before too long.
