This was a summer project. ’37 Savage 20 ga Sterlingworth 26”. I reblued the barrels, added a period correct No-shoc solid pad, and had checkering recut. I can usually do well with most doubles but had a hard time getting the limit with this one the first time shooting it. Choked .024 in the right and .031 in the left. Full and X-Full. Missed everything close and was only good if they were 30 yards or more away! I can’t imagine too many 20s left the factory choked this way.

I also have a late 20 gauge SW with 26" barrels. Recently measured the choke and they measure .016 and .028. So yes, yours are darn tight for sure. PS. I'm having mine opened up to .005 and .015 because it will be used on early grouse/woodcock before the leaves come down. It will also make a dandy waterhole dove gun I'm thinking. PS. Foxes and doves are like biscuits and gravy. Can't think of one without the other.

I hate to open this gun up but I missed every dove coming to the decoys at 25 yards that I should have dusted. Other than being a 20, I don't think this gun has particular value since it has the big ugly opening lever and is missing the grip cap. Whom do you trust to open up a gun? I sent a full and full (.027) 16 gauge Parker to a very famous gunsmith who promised he could oepn it up to modified (.014) and it came back I.C. (.010).
Is yours missing the grip cap also? What year did they disappear? Thanks.
