The Super on the 5-stand

Today I shot a charity team event at our local club, Bay Gall Sporting Clays, in Rocky Ford, GA., with my 9+ lb. MX-8. Our team won with a 353. I had been reading some posts about Super Foxes last night on here, and decided to take mine and shoot the 5-stand after we shot the course. There were 306 youngsters there today, competing in the district 4-H competition, and some were over on the 5-stand when we got finished with the sporting course. I pulled out the big Fox and the kids really took notice of it. Five of us shot together and I finished with a 22/25. Not too bad considering the HE is choked .046 right and .047 left. I didn't worry about using the "more open barrel" on the closer ones  , and shot them all right/left. The kids really enjoyed watching it, and I have to admit I had a pretty good time, too. The 6 bird is a springing teal which comes from a trap that is at least 60 yards from the shed, and goes up a good 90-100 feet before looping ever so slightly left to fall. I broke it every time. One of my misses was due to forgetting to push the automatic safety off  . I got it off in time to break one, but it was a true pair and I missed the other due to the delay.

The big Fox weighs 9# 7, so it really feels pretty good after shooting the heavy MX-8. Think I'll load me up some spreaders and start using it a little more during the "off season".

All my best, Stan

Sounds like a pretty great day to me! I wish more guys around me shot classic sxs. There's plenty of b guns, kreighoffs, blazers etc but only one other guy I shoot with that regularly uses a sxs and it's a model B so not very exciting lol.

There's getting to be more and more interest in them here. One of my regular shooting buddies just bought an AE and sent it off to be tightened up and gone over. Another was looking at my gun yesterday and said he wants to find him one. As an interesting aside, he mentioned an older local man, who has advanced Alzheimer's, who he said has a nice collection of old S x Ss. Mentioned that he has an HE. Now that really got my attention. He had been asked by the friend's wife to tag and wipe down the guns to make sure they were okay. He seems to remember the HE has 30" barrels.

I am toying with the idea of organizing a S x S shoot at Bay Gall, and really publicizing it. Not a big affair with vendors and all, but just a really good shoot with a great meal.

The meal is a big thing, but offering free vendor spaces may get some interest.

Stan, Looks like you had a great day with that wonderful HE!

Ithaca 33, There are a bunch of SxS shooters here in CT. You're just not finding the right venues. I shot East Glastonbury Fish and Game today and there were at least 10 SxS shooters at this small event.

I kinda mis-spoke, Bill. Didn't really mean that vendors wouldn't be welcome, just that I wouldn't expect a lot in that regard the first year. It will be most certainly open to vendors, free, if it comes off. If I try it I intend to make a concerted effort to publicize the event much better than many of the small S x S shoots. I have attended a particular SxS shoot here in Georgia for several years since it's inception. It was held in January this year and I didn't even know about it. If I have anything to do with one, every one who attends the first one will receive mailed (and e-mailed if possible) notice of the succeeding one.

Thanks for your input on it.
