Hello, new member here 1st post. I just got back into shooting after a long hiatus and want to buy something that I will be proud to hand down to my son (perhaps a step up in engraving from Sterlingworth?). I have a soft spot for 20 Gauges with 28" barrels, budget @$5000.

Where do I start to learn more about the different grades, what to look for, reputable dealers etc? Thank you in advance for any advice you might provide.

Sean

Hi Sean,

The best buy for your money would be to invest the $30 in an annual membership to the AH Fox Collectors Association. Here is a link to the membership form:
http://www.foxcollectors.com/ah_fox/pdf ... 20Form.pdf

Being a member provides access to the Member's Forums including the For Sale forum. I learn so much about Fox guns by reading the posts of the ol'Fox members!

Even if not a member the our home page provide information and photos of the different grades:

Otherwise, just take your time. A "graded" smallbore Fox in good or better condition will start at about $3500 and climb exponentially as the grades of guns increase!

Mark,

Thank you for your prompt reply and advice. I feel somewhat foolish since I accessed this site from my iPad and wasn't able to open any other link than the forum. I will return to the site from my computer to read up on the different grades. I will also look into membership.

Happy New Year,
Sean

Seant,

Welcome to The Fox World.

Like all good things, nice Fox'es are when and where you find them. If your somewhat convenient to Las Vegas NV, the Las Vegas Antique Gun Show will be held in a couple weeks at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. Specifically, Thursday (for an additional entrance fee), Friday, Saturday and Sunday January 17 - 20.

The Fox Collectors Assn will have a table there with some nice Fox'es on display and there will be several members there that will be happy to answer any questions. Likely be some nice Fox'es to buy at the show but the "real bargains" will likely sell on Thursday during dealer set up, hence the additional fee for getting in Thursday. There should be an assortment of Fox'es for sale. The Las Vegas gun show is not your average gun show. Probably one of the top gun shows for nice collectable firearms: Colt's, Winchester's, Fox'es, Parkers, high end English stuff and you name it.

Hope this helps.
