Got my DGJ yesterday and found a great Craig Larter article on ten gauge L.C. Smiths. What a great article. I was a bit disappointed that Craig's pictures of his and my Ideal Grade tens were not included but he told me long ago that the pictures were not suitable for publication. Bill Murphy

Craig's modest, but very focused collection of LC 10's is most impressive in their rarity. It's amazing how he was able to put this collection together in a relatively short period of time. Congrats Craig!

I got my issue on Monday and have only briefly looked at the article; I'll go back to it when I can give it the proper amount of time. Looks like a good one; looking forward to it!

Craig, wonderful article on the ten gauges. As you mentioned the modern tens are used for pass shooting. There are some folks in our area that have developed a talent for long range shooting with newer guns and steel shot. I think your guns would be a lot more fun! Thanks for the article. John

Great article, Craig! You're getting pretty good at this, eh? As another duck junkie I found it all especially interesting. I used a L.C. Smith 32" 10 ga. on 'em for awhile, too. But traded it on Susie, a Smith 16 ga., for late season doves. Kinda miss the big ol' gal, even still. Kept all my reloading tools though, jes' in case.

Thanks Stan and all----the Editor edited out a paragraphs that made a nicer transition from the Quality 3 discussion to the Pigeon Grade---oh well.
All my 10ga Elsies are 30" bbls, I had a 32" 10ga O Grade and it was just to much for me, just to big and slow for decoying ducks---as Researcher says it went back into the stream of commerce.

In my read of your article, it seemed to me your premiss could be used to justify a bunch of Ithaca 10-gauge doubles, and maybe even a few from Ilion.

Dave: My thinking exactly!!! Just what I need justification to expand my collection----perfect!!!
I have been searching for a Ithaca 10ga NID Super Ten----no luck yet.

Craig,
That's what my 10 ga. Elsie was, exactly. Too slow for me, too.

Craig, go for the gold and look for a 3 1/2" Ithaca. I don't think my Ithaca Magnum weighs any more than my Smith Ideal. They're all too much for me to handle, but I still like 'em. My Mag Ten Ithaca has what I think are factory swivels, so I don't have to carry it too often. I had my order written for a Grade 4 Super Ten when ICD went under. I should have been quicker, although I don't think Steve Lamboy actually got the tens into production. The one prototype was actually built with original Ithaca barrels.
