And how about this one? This beavertail is on a different SW but its side profile looks sorta similar to the first one posted here.

This BT is on a 16 gauge SW Ejector 28-inch "rainy day gun". Philly gun sent to Savage as evidenced by double proof stamps - Phila and Savage. Phila barrels also have the 2-3/4" chamber stamping as done by Savage on reworks. Barrels were reblued then (or at some point) and the gun now has this beavertail and a replacement buttstock that's similar to an A Grade style.

So what do you boys think of this beavertail? It certainly has the Savage crossbrace, and its s/n is stamped on the wood ridge between the barrel channels. Silvers

What I find missing is the tiny bit of bead continued into the wood from the barrel flats and the bead on the edge of the forearm iron. This Fox-Sterlingworth Ejector Deluxe has the bead, but I don't have a picture on hand that shows it --

I agree with Researcher about the "bead". What looks different to my eye is the area where the forend iron ends and the wood goes up into that "plateau area" which fits between the barrels. I have never seen that "step transition area" shaped in that matter. I dont recall seeing that checkering pattern before on a B/T but we're always learning.

Thanks Dave and Tom, I agree with both of you on the "beads" , checkering, and the wood transition area - all of which I spotted when she crossed my path. I couldn't care less if the wood is factory or not because I picked her up at a pittance. Gun has some other things that detract from it as collector, so it machts nichts if she bird hunts in the rain or snow. Choked IC and Mod. She's my current go-to smallbore when conditions are tough. Just wanted to show another one of these mysterious beavertails. Frank

Frank, has the forend escutcheon been embellished with some added engraving on your gun?

Yeah Greg, the engraving is somewhat more elaborate than I've seen on other smallbore SW Ejector guns. Good eye!

They do look short. Mine is a 20 gauge Deluxe with ejectors and twin ivory's with 26" barrels choked full/mod.

Right. No bead on on SP-/SPE-grades. My 16-gauge Fox-Sterlingworth Ejector Deluxe (1936) and my 16-gauge A-Grade (1933) both have the beads, and my 12-gauge SPE-Grade Skeet & Upland Game Gun (1937) doesn't. Maybe it is a time period thing? This may well be a subject that needs more study. Perhaps I was too quick to judge in my original reply? Lets see some more examples.
