I'm new and purchased 27 A grade need opinions

First off, I'm Mike Borden and I have been looking to purchase a Fox and found one. I purchased it and got it in hand yesterday. I like the the gun a lot, the bores are shiny, the stock has been refinished and the barrels have a lot of blue on them. As a matter of fact, I thought they were reblued, but the people I have taken it to says they haven't been.

Here's the kicker, the safety doesn't work on the left barrel/back trigger. I put the safety on and pull the front trigger, it does what it's supposed to do. The back trigger, it goes off with the safety on.

I have a 3 day inspection period and have already been in contact with the seller. They gave me a couple of options.

1. send the gun back for full refund.
2. get an estimate of the repairs and refund some of that.
3. Refund 50 and call the deal done and I go get it resolved.

I have gotten an estimate ~300, but that hasn't been faxed yet to the seller, which the seller is requesting.

How much does something like that usually cost and do any of you have any opinions?

Again, I like the gun very much. So much, that I'm just thinking about saying screw it, take the a 50 -100 dollar refund and deal with it myself. However, I don't want this to turn into a lemon. :)

With out seeing the gun, or a picture with the stock off - its all a guess - the safety is a just trigger block - so for some reason the back - left - trigger is not lined up with the safety bar above it(is the trigger straight up and down) or the safety block is chipped on that side( find that hard to see)

what did the gunsmith that gave you the estimate say the issue was? what has to be fixed/replaced will determine the cost

I figured it would be hard to tell without pics. :)

The person that was quoting 300 wasn't really a smith. It was a guy at a sporting goods store that buys and sells guns and he's very familiar with shotguns and has a couple of Fox's himself. He was going to send it to a smith in New York and was just giving a guess at what it would cost.

I was thinking someone could give an opinion on the most common thing that would cause a problem like this.

Could it be possible, again without pics it's hard to tell, that it just needs a good cleaning?

I did notice that the mechanism(I think it's the sear, it get's reset when you close the gun) that's at the end and inside of the reciever is lower on the left side(left barrel) than the other when I look in the reciever.

Thanks for the information!

if he did not remove the stock - it wasn't an estimate - it was a swag (simple wild ass guess)

it could be a tweak to straighten something (cheap)- it could be a broken part(depends on which one)- heck could be just dirt or a wood chip

Mike you might consider returning the gun to the seller (at his expense) with the understanding that you will purchase it at the original price once it has been repaired. Takes the risk out of the deal for both you and the seller.

Twice Barrel,
That's a good suggestion, I might give that a try.

Thanks everyone!

The seller is going to take it back and their gunsmith is going to fix the problem.

Thanks for the information!

Once I get it back, in working order I hope, I'll post some pics!
