Left barrel not firing?

I recently purchased my first fox. A sterlingworth philly 16ga with ejectors. I am hooked! It's a beautiful gun.
About 50% of the time, the left barrel is not firing. The firing pins present nicely and I can see a clear and strong mark on the ammo. There were one or two occasions where I moved the ammo to the right barrel and it wouldn't fire, though.
Thoughts? Is it the gun, or the ammo?? The ammo was ordinary Remington 2-3/4" 16ga game loads, 1oz, 7-1/2 shot, with 2-1/2 dram equivalent.

Try some different brand of shells. Bobby

I've had the same problem with my 16ga Sterlingworth and Remington Ammunition (exact same loads you've described below). I had six misfires in the field the first day I hunted with hit. I took the gun to shoot Five Stand later that day and put a box of Federal and some RST shells through it with no problems. Put the Remington loads back in, and it misfired again and again. It's a shame too, because I was given 10 boxes of Remington 16ga shells

Thanks, Mike. That's a relief. I have a BUNCH of boxes of these shells. I guess I have to find another 16 ga that will fire them!

Or, cheap ammo for sale.
I am going to get some better quality 2-1/2" shells this weekend. They are expensive, but I'd sure hate to miss that perfect shot.

Why not reload your own? Lots of good loads available. Have you visited the 16 Ga site?

Yes, 16ga is a great site. This is my first 16 ga and I love it (besides the fact that it's a fox). I haven't graduated to reloading yet. One day I may. Good advice. I wish I could return the game loads, though.

Simple load the Remington shells in the right barrel and use Winchester Super X or Federals in the left barrel and the next time you clean it squirt a small amount of carburetor cleaner in the left firing pin hole in the standing breech as you may have some gunk or solidified gun grease that is slowing down the hammer fall and causing the light hits.
