Had a great time out at Beaver Pond Sporting Club in Snow Camp, NC today. Johnny Miller has a Class A setup that I would highly recommend if you have the chance to visit. I met some great people, including two fellow "Fox Nuts" Alan Love and Dick Jones, and spent the whole day hunting Chukar and shooting clays. I took my 16ga Sterlingworth out for the first time, and I couldn't have been happier with it. Aside from some crap Remington shells that resulted in a few misfires (but no missed birds), it was a great day of shooting. I met Alan through the Fox Collectors site, and have to thank him for the invitation to the hunt this morning, and his guide services this afternoon. Below are some pictures of Alan and I with our Sterlingworths, and the days haul.

Nice pics!!

But, if you are not sweating up and down the Snake River Breaks like Bing and Phil in that classic The American Sportsman episode, you're not really Chucker hunting!!

Snake river chuckars are not for anyone with an AARPs card.

Mike,

Thanks for coming out to Beaver Pond and looking the place over. I really enjoyed getting to meet and hunt with you!!! Hope you get to come out again REALLY soon. Thanks also for posting the pic.s.!!! I'll agree with the Researcher about Chukar Hunting. However for Snow Camp, NC I think we had a pretty good time and that afternoon I don't care what anyone says we had to HUNT for what we shot. A 40 yard shot with a 20 ga. was pretty darn GOOD!!!
Thanks again for coming out to Beaver Pond.

Okay Alan....where's the dogs? YOU know I enjoy seeing dogs as much as good guns. You guys sure have the foliage still hanging on down there. Is that normal for this time of year? 40 yards is pretty impressive. Those loads must be some secret of yours, huh.

Loggy,
If Phil Harris could do it, anyone can. At least if you have a TV crew for support.

Birddog,
There are certainly plenty of stories about off camera events.

Wow, Dave, you really hit a nostalgic nerve with that one!!! The American Sportsman. If I remember correctly, that aired on early Sunday afternoon just before the football game on ABC. I was glued to our color RCA set with the automatic antenna tuner; the one that sounded like an amplified heartbeat when you twisted the lighted dial....LOL!!!

I remember the episode when Bing and Co. float -planed into a virgin stream up in Newfoundland and were catching 4-5 lb brookies on every cast, on big, bushy dries.

Loggy is right. That was a hard drinking bunch of guys. I bet their off-camera antics could fill the Library of Congress!!!
Simpler times and warm memories!!!!!!-----TOOL
