Gunsmithing screwdriver recommendation for A.H. Fox work

Post by jmc »

Hello all,

Can anyone recommend a good, but reasonably priced, set of screw drivers, or a bit set for working on Fox guns? I've looked at Brownell's and Midway and am not sure whether the bit sets will have any bits that actually fit the slots on Fox guns (and other vintage American makers) properly. Midway sells individual hollow ground drivers and I'm willing to go with these - just don't know which sizes.

Also, if you know of a good drift punch set I'd appreciate that info too.
Seems tough to find ones that are long enough.

Thanks,

Jerry

I bought the Magna-Tip Thin bit set from Brownell's...can always find a perfectly sized bit for my Fox and Parker guns from this set.

I second the thin bit set from brownells, the only thing I'll add is while your at it order their big master set.

Between the two set's you'll have most of the bases covered and a couple of years from now you'll be real glad you did.

I use bit's from both set's when I work on my Foxes.

I would also recommend the master set and the Thin bit set from Brownells. I have used these for years and you can call Brownells and have replacement bits sent for free if you break the tips. (which you will)

Yeah, after going over my Fox guns, it seems that the thin bit set may bee too thin for some of the slots that have been opened up a bit over the years so the master set will be a necessity if I'm going to venture into doing some of my own work on these old things.
