So, how did they do it 100 years ago without the internet and digital transmission of data? The 1911 GAH was held on June 20-23 at the Columbus Ohio Gun Club, and the July 1 edition of the
American Field was filled with page after page of writeups, pictures taken at the event and full scores. Also, many new adverts from the companies, showing success of their products. Was that by mail, telegraph, or what?
Sorry, I didn't see any particular mention of Fox Guns.

Thanks Frank! I just don't read anything like that unless you or someone else posts it on a BBS. Those 1911 ad writers could make a living in our modern times pitching in Shooting Sportsman or one of the Clays sports magazines.
Best,
Mike

Frank,
Thanks for sharing these advertisments.
I read in the PARKER STORY that perhaps Remington bought the Parker Gun works to help sell its newly acquired Peters ammunition. Guns were often a one time sale and marginally profitable, especially in the great depression, but repeat sales of ammunition was a moneymaker!
Four of five of these adds refer to ammunition brands including UMC, Western, Winchester, and Peters. If only LC Smith and AH Fox had also sold ammunition...
Today's advertising for guns and ammunition is often seperate. The Winchester Repeating Arms is no longer owned by Olin which owns Winchester ammunition. Federal ammunition is owned by ATK, a large and very successful military arms and muntions maker. While ATK makes medium caliber (20mm and larger) arms, it does not own any consumer gun company. I think Dupont still owns Remintgon arms and ammunition concerns. So, maybe the money is and always has be in repeat profits on mass produced goods such as ammo, soft drinks, beer, bread, gasoline, and fast food.
What's the point of all this? We collectors of quality arms such as Fox, LC Smith, Parker, Lefever, and so on appreciate hand craftsmanship, quality, and reliability. That stated, I own several graded AH Fox guns but at this time envision myself owning a CSMC Fox. I'd rather spend my money on ammo (for me reloading components), SxS shooting events such as teh Great Northeast and Upper Penisula SxS events, and hunting than on a one time purchase of an expensive modern Fox. Hmmm, I may need to rethink this. Maybe I should own a piece of modern craftsmanship...

DuPont cut Remington loose some years back. If I recall correctly Remington is now part of the same conglomorate that owns Chrysler. DuPont acquired controlling interest in Remington Arms Co., Inc. in 1934, same time they got Parker and Peters were added to the fold. In the mid-1980s DuPont called in all the outstanding Remington Arms Co., Inc. stock and exchanged DuPont stock for it, making Remington actually part of DuPont.
