Fox Collectors

I understand modern solvents can eat away the barrel solder. I use Ed's Red and just make sure that it doesn't wick back into the rib. What do you all do? Did any of the old brochures cover this topic?

(Sorry if this has been beat to death, but I couldn't find anything using the search function.)

Keep the solvent in the bore and it shouldn't be an issue. I'm old school and use Hoppe's no.9 and also J-B to remove plastic build up once a year or so.

A good friend turned me onto Shooters Choice. All I now use.

I agree. If girls smelled like Hoppe's #9 back when I was young, I probably would have got married at 20 (instead of 35). Really!

Howsomever, I have been experimenting with Ezzox lately, especially with lock work. After it dries, it still looks almost wet; rub your finger on it and you realize it is dry, yet retains lubricity. Supposed to be good when applied to a clean dry bore as well as cleaning the bore.

I'm lazy and cheap. A couple of squirts of Gumout aerosol brake or carb cleaner in both barrels followed by a couple strokes with the old bronze brush. The toluene in the cleaner will cut about anything. Followed up with a couple dry patches and a final swab with a clean patch moistened with Breakfree. Low tech but has worked good for me for 25 years, no pitted bores and not a loose rib in the house.
