A H Fox shotguns with Chicopee stamped barrels

Every once in a while someone comes up with a Philly or Savage era A H Fox shotgun with a barrel with a Chicopee Falls, MA stamping. Of course the Philly era guns were probably re-barreled by Savage or gunsmiths like Mitzy Bielen, using Chicopee made barrels.

I am doing some research on the these barrels and when they were made and used.

Please, if anyone has a graded Fox, with a Chicopee barrel, I would appreciate hearing about its proof mark (if any) and the exact legend on the barrels. Pictures would be great - but I'd also appreciate hearing from gents who can just describe what the proof mark (on the barrel flats) looks like. Also what the barrel legends/stampings say. This request is limited to Chicopee barrels on A H Fox designed shotguns.... not Fox Model B's, Stevens 311's, etc.

You can post the information here, send it to me in a PM, or email to me at silvers897@yahoo.com

Thanks very much in advance for any inputs. Silvers

Silvers,

I have just such a gun. It's a 1911 Pin gun with two sets of barrels marked Chickopee Falls, fresh tiger stipe case colors, and ejectors. Barrels marked 1 and 2 with forend iron and wood similarly marked. all serialed to the gun.

Top of the right barrel roll stamped, "Proof tested 12 gauge 2 3/4inch chambers"

Top the the left barrel roll stamped "Savage Arms Corporation Chickopee Falls Mass U. S. A."

On the barrel flats The serial number, Full and modified on the left and right barrels,

a stamp with what looks like SRP in an oval

One set marked 1 and the other marked 2

On my gun both barrel sets are 26"

When I bought the gun, the barrels, forends, and reciever were 99% condition but he stock was cracked, finish was almost gone, and a poor fit. Obviously not in the same condition as the rest of the gun or the original stock. I've restocked it since then.

I can bring it to the Northeast if you'd like to look at it.

Dick

Dick, thanks so much for your time and effort to look at at your Pin Gun and write up the detailed reply. Your information is a piece of the puzzle. Your Pin Gun is of course a Philly Sterlingworth, and it was obviously re-barreled by Savage at some point. I am mainly interested in Savage era (1929-1946) graded Foxes with Chicopee barrels, but nonetheless I'd like to check out the barrels on your gun.

Good to hear you'll be driving up from NC to the NE Classic here in PA. I just made the same trip in reverse, to the Southern. Please bring your Pin Gun if you have room in the car. I see that one of the big vintage gun vendors from MI is advertising he'll have over 100 guns on the tables at the NE Classic. And that's only one of the table vendors! Only three weeks to go!!!
